Hoping for a reprieve from the doom and gloom

I read this posting by Syed Akbar Ali in his blog and got quite depressed,

Fitch Downgrade Has Many Implications, Malaysia Unraveling

Going through it is like reading the palm of a dying man. (Note: This is just an expression. I don't read palm and I know that Islam forbid such practices. So, the ustaz/ostad types, please don't kill me for it, ok. You all can be very scary, sometimes)

And Syed Akbar has quite a number of such depressing postings of late.

The worst part of it was that I agree with what were written by him. Well, not all la, but most of them.

And the senior blogger presented it all in such a convincing manner.

I had actually feared such a downgrade way back when the BN government increased it's efforts to win the GE13 by dishing out goodies such as the BR1M hand outs. I felt that such a practice will not be good for our country's debt level in the long run.

In fact, I had actually cringed when I first heard about BR1M, the same way I was very apprehensive about the excessive handouts (including hundreds of millions to Chinese schools) given to the Chinese community, who in the end just turned around and gave the government their middle finger. It was all so going overboard at that time.

Remember that Chinese drumming for the Chinese New Year celebrations thing? Well, it was as terlebih as that. Whenever I remember how hard Datuk Najib tried to win over the Chinese and how they rebuffed him, I felt sad for the prime minister. I know for a fact that some Chinese laughed at Najib when they watched the video clip of him going at that drums. They think that he was being pathetic.

But, I guess I'm also a guilty party for failing to write anything about it back then. At that time, it was a do or die battle for the Barisan Nasional, so I had refrained from a lot of things. On the hindsight, a better tactic should had been employed. Surely all those super intelligent and highly paid advisers and consultants could had thought out something.

Now, the reality is biting us back in the ass for those excesses, I hope the government have a proper plan to arrest the slide. Otherwise, it's going to be really depressing indeed for Malaysia.

Despite everything, I still have hope in DS Najib Razak. Well, for the critiques, pray tell what other choice do I have. If you say Pakatan, I'm sorry to say that I think they will destroy the country from the word GO. That's not an option as the mix of DAP, Pas and PKR is as flammable as a mix of aircraft fuel and fire.

So, Datuk Najib better come out with something really good over the coming months to improve things. And then later, I hope to see BN to come out with a new and better strategy for GE14. Hopefully it's something more intelligent and with more depth.

Hopefully Datuk Najib will also get himself a new set of genuine advisers to chart the new plan for the future.

  1. I've stopped frequenting Syed Akbar's blog. He is too fond of picking any slightest mistakes made by muslims, especially the arabs. If he is a real Syed, then he should not be doing arab bashing. He is akin to the english speaking indian woman in the estate who did not allow her son to play with the other indian boys. He might as well call himself Mamak Akbar Ali!!

    6. This Syed Akbar Ali is an anti-Hadith guy, so his view on Islam, Arab and the majority of Muslim is often spewed. He often put his way of understanding Islam (which he believes is the most superior and correct) to judge others and regard them as stupid, dungu (a term he loves to use) or club of doom if they don't follow his values.

He is a victim of his own superiority complex. He always thinks he is the most superior, everybody else is doomed unless if they agree with him.

What make thing worse is that he is also a hypocrite in his own way. Try to be critical on his blog and I bet your response will not be published. He will usually find some weak arguments post and bombard it to show how superior his ideology is. But in actual fact, he filters out many which he could not answer or simply show that his ideology is screwed.

One of the example I can give you is that he once said that the Muslim (ASWJ) is screwed because we believe in Israk Mikraj where they believe an animal (which he unshamefully claimed is a pegasus from Greek myth, a case how he put words in Muslim's mouth) took the prophet S.A.W. from Mekah to Jerussalam in one night. He said this is illogical.

So I responded that isn't today technology has proven that it is possible? With aeroplane, we can go to and fro from Mekah tu Jerussalam more than 2-3 times in one night. But as usual, he did not publish my comment.

It is easy to bash others. I can bash Malay, Indian, Chinese, Arab, Mat Salleh, South American, Nepalese, Bagalesdeshi, you just have to name it. All I need is some eloquence in writing (which I believe is his main asset). Just be careful when you read this guy. He is as "snake" as you can imagine.

    8. Hadith split Muslims apart. I don't think Syed Akhbar Ali is anti-hadith or anti-anything. He just don't agrre that we should give preference of the hadith more than the Koran. He might be the true muslim, after all. Why do we need hadith when we already have the Koran. The Syiahs don't agree with the Sunnah's hadith and vice-versa. And all these hadiths were compiled, 400 years after the Prophet's death. I don't think the Prophet would agree, if this hadith were written when he was alive. What more, centuries after he passed away.

    9. One more thing.
Syed seems to be weary of religious people, irrespective of faith. He is famous for the idiom, "No Money, No Religion". I tends to agree. Religious people need money to survive too.
For all I know, there is no Muslim country in this world that is successful and wealthy, hence powerful. We have not invented anything useful to mankind, either.
I have 5 sons. Occasionally, I would tell them to learn how to built a spacecraft, so that someday, we could ran away from doomsday. The Koran never forbid us from trying to escape 'hari kiamat'.

    11. Among my friends are some saintly Syeds who are acculturated into the Malay Muslim mainstream; besides their typically strong command of English, their Malay language ability is way beyond their Arabic competence. Of course because the Syeds and Sharifs are the loyal bearers of the classical Ahl Sunnah wal Jamaah none that I have come across are wahhabi salafis in thought or belief, although some, like most people in our modern society today, may be persuaded by liberal fashions. They are Arabs with a difference; they are of the sufi lineage tracing back all the way to Sayyidina Ali and blessed Rasulullah s.a.w. Of course traditional Malay Islam is no different from the Syeds' understanding and practice. It's the media exposure that heavily influences the way people think and feel.

Not all is gloomy, if we have balanced and proper education:

    13. It is easy to say no money no religion. I can also say no money no chinese, no money no malay, no money no indian. As long as we are human, we need money. Religion as an organization that move on human force off course needs money. How the money is obtained and how it is spend is more of the concern. In the Quran, there are numerous ayat that talks about zakat and charity. If this is not about money, then what it is?

He himself is a goldsmith, so he is as much dire of money as the people he tried to accuse. Just as in corporate, there are people who make their gain through ill means, so does religion. But to blanket accuse religious people as no money no religion, it is indeed foolish, evil and arrogant.

Selepas kewafatan Nabi Adam as, zaman kenabian silih berganti sehingga ke zaman Nabi Muhammad saw.

The answer is YES.

The answer is YES.

The answer is YES.

The answer is NO. sebab zaman itu adalah zaman sekarang.

Fasa kelima : Pada fasa yg terakhir ini, dunia akan kembali diperintah mengikut cara Nabi berasaskan syariat Islam. Adakah zaman ini sudah berlaku? The answer is NO.

Setelah Nabi habis bercerita tentang fasa yg kelima, Baginda terus diam.

Semoga lindunganNya sang Allah sentiasa bersama kita. InsyaAllah.

    3. If you're not rich businessmen or miliionaires club or top and middle level professionals ie. you are one of the bottom 40 % of the population then the cost of living in Singapore is a great pressure from many sides. For instance, Malaysians who take their private automobiles for granted, should realize that an individual needs to fork out $70,000 to purchase a Certificate Of Entitlement before he is entitled to purchase a new car of his choice; and the COE is valid for only 10 years, after which it must be renewed at the new COE value 10 years hence.
The richest country in the world has also the 2nd lowest fertility rate in the world next to Macau and according to one unofficial international poll, one of the least happiest citizens.
It really hasn't been the same spirited and congenial Singapore of the 80's back when Singapore belonged to Singaporeans. Now with the most millionaires per capita in the world, the 3 million native Singaporeans are compelled to live in our little island of giant ambitions: "the best playground in the world". The population of Singapore is 5 million today.

It's a debate between 2 15/16 year old girls, one from a Singapore Madrasah school, the other from the Singapore American School.

The breadth and depth of thought, and the clarity in manner with which arguments are put forth, certainly eclipse the numb minded comments one periodically sees on this blog.

Is that indicative of the difference between the Malaysian and Singaporean education systems? And by extension the respective countries' present conditions?

You cinakuis are ungrateful lot. Recently I watched a movie about during WW2. Millions of Chinese migrated from a province to another province ( I forgot the names) because of famine. They travelled hundreds of miles some on foot and the fortunate ones by carts. It was during winter and many died on the way because of hunger. On top of everything else, the Japanese planes dropped bombs on them and the Chinese government under Cheng Kai Shek (don't know the right spelling) did nothing to help these refugees and as a result 3 millions died. This is based on true story which was highlighted by an American reporter in Times magazine who won a Pulitzer prize.
