The truth is, I don't mind Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew too much anymore.
As Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said of LKY's latest running down of Malaysia, the man is old, just like himself, and therefore should be allowed to ramble away all he wants.
Of course Tun, throw in his usual sarcastic zinger when he said LKY should be allowed to enjoy the "Singapore styled freedom of speech".
Well, at least LKY was fair on all side in his assessment.
While running down Malaysia, he ran it down wholesale.
In his newly released book One Man’s View of the World, LKY labelled the Opposition in Malaysia as an “opportunistic ad-hoc group, not held together by even a vaguely coherent set of ideas but by a common desire to unseat the Government”.
Of course the Pakatan gang, true to themselves went ballistic on that one.
Karpal Singh, among them, gave a press conference yesterday just to castigate LKY on that particular paragraph of the book, only to later on announced his true intention for calling the PC - to announce that he is also releasing his own book next month.
Another memoir by an old man, I guess.
I wonder what Karpal going to write about his contributions to his country though.
At least LKY , despite his faults, built Singapore to be what it is now the same as Dr Mahathir, who led this country for 22 years, to mould it into quite a respectable country. Okay some may disagree with Dr Mahathir, but they can't deny the fact that an average man living in Malaysia, is any time better off than those living in the neighboring countries. At least in Malaysia, an average wage earner can afford to own a car and a landed property which are luxuries in Singapore.
Back to those people who criticized statesmen such as Dr Mahathir and LKY, I wish they could list down what they have done for their country. I'm sure people like Lim Kit Siang, Nik Aziz, Hadi Awang and Anwar Ibrahim will want to come out with their own memoirs. Hopefully they can come up with their own list of achievements for Malaysia.
As for me, I rather admire LKY then any of those Pakatan leaders. At least he achieved something for his people....and unlike Lim Kit Siang, his son is handsome,
