Ghani on the ground versus Kit Siang in the sky

It is raining heavily in JB as I'm writing this. I'm taking a day off from work today. It's after all a Sunday.

A friend forwarded me the schedule of Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, the BN candidate for Gelang Patah for today.

Morning
 - Walkabout at market of Taman Ungku Tun Aminah,
 - Meeting Chinese community at San San Kok Wang temple in Kangkar Pulai followed with a walkabout and having coffee at a kopitiam
 - Attending UCTC@68 programme atPDM Kemuliaan Taman University.
- Meeting Indian community at Taman Pulai Perdana
Afternoon
-Meeting residents of Kampung Poh Chee Leng
- Attending a gathering of women group from Gelang Patah at MBJBT hall in Taman University.
- Meeting with Chinese women group at Good Hope Hotel.
- Meeting Indian community at Kangkar Pulai
- Meeting Indian community at Taman Nesa, Skudai
- Meeting with Gerakan members at Taman Ungku Tun Aminah
- Meeting fishermen at Kampung Pendas Laut
Evening
- Meeting Chinese community at Bandar Baru Kangkar Pulai
- Meeting members of the Chia Ping Cultural Association at Taman Ungku Tun Aminah

Well, it seems that Ghani's schedule is tight.

However, it is not as glamourous as that of his rival DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

These Ghani's little meetings with the electorates are normally attended by just a few hundred people while Kit Siang will have mammoth gatherings such as the one near Sutera mall last weekend which was estimated by pro-opposition websites such as Malaysian Insider being attended by about 10,000 people.

Kit Siang's ceramah now even have the added glamour of para-gliders flying above it carrying flags of the DAP, Pas....errr, I'm not sure if they carry the PKR flag (Is Dr Boo already ok with Chua Jui Meng?)

Kit Siang is also calling for a Press conference everyday. There are always things he wanted to highlight in the newspapers. Even the Singapore media is having a field day covering him.

Ghani, on the other hand is taking a different approach. To get his statement, reporters have to chase him through his tight schedule. Ghani's priority seems to be meeting the electorates as much as he can rather than getting on the pages of newspapers or TV screen.

I did ask a close aide of Ghani whether he was worried about his boss' campaign being too low keyed as compared to Kit Siang's glamourous strategy.

"No, I'm not worried. We know what we are doing. I just hope that those para-gliders are not going to crash and them later blaming BN for it," he said.

I hope he is right. It seems that the BN's campaign strategy in Gelang Patah is a repeat of how they did it in the Tenang by-election two years ago. BN, despite going low-key had won convincingly.

Whatever it is I'm glad that the BN's campaign in Gelang Patah is now visibly going full swing. Among others, BN posters and flags are finally all up in place at Gelang Patah as we enter the final stretch to polling day.

"Now that the Chinese in Gelang Patah are subjected to this kind of politics of race and hatred, we will see whether they will reciprocate the tolerance and acceptance that Malays in Tebrau, Segamat, Simpang Renggam, Ayer Hitam and Tanjong Piai had accorded the various non-Malay candidates they have supported all these while."

The Malays were stupid to support the Chinese and Indians candidates. They were duped by UMNO Presidents purportedly they need to have Chinese support.

In reality, the Chinese just want to be Cabinet Ministers and have mega budgets and projects. Why tolerance? Why acceptance of the Chinese? They are kafir and they are part of China imperialsm. It may have been necessity to pretend to the British that we are on good terms with Chinese in order to drive them out but why do have to tolerate the greedy Chinese now?

Do you understand this point? There is no reason to accept and tolerate chinese culture and language in Tanah Melayu. Because the end game of the Chinese communists were to colonise Malaya and Singapore for China. In Singapore, the Chinese government systematically reduced the Malay representation by bringing 1 million Chinese communist citizens and 1 million indian and filipinos.

The chinese never wanted to stay permanently anyway in Malaya that is why many of them left for US, Canada or countries that are willing to accomodate them.

This democracy and election is a farce if it allows the immigrants Chinese and Indians to rule Tanah Melayu. The only people to benefit will be Indians like Mahathir, Ananda and his other business cronies.

Let it be stressed again. This the Federated Malay States and there is no historical or logical reasons to allow Chinese to rule in Tanah Melayu. That is not what we fought independence from Christian Britain for.

If not you will be left rueing, will the Chinese appreciate this or that that the Malays had done out of stupidity.

To the Chinese, thank you, we will take the rainforest ,the licenses, the retail business.. for we are Malaysians..hehe

What the Malays should do is help the Malays in Singapore which was first inhabitated by Johore Malays and Javanese from the Chinese invasion. The act of reducing Malay representation in Singapore is akin to racial genocide by the Chinese Govt of Singapore.

Malays in Singapore should be given scholarships as they give to Chinese in Malaysia.

it's this kind of extremism coming from both ends that I'm worried about. Extremism from the DAP end begets extremism of another kind.

    6. Sniff sniff. I smell another attempt by a racist DAP cyber gangster trying to portray Malays as racist. This seems to be a trend in recent weeks. I think these troopers are given a theme and a character to play so that they will be consistent.

Too bad they are all anally stupid.

With sex between men, PKR will be send into oblivion after GE13. With his sexcapades, DAP & PAS would not dare to shoulder this 'biawak hidup'. No rejects from UMNO will ever be entertained by Pakatan, in future. Mat Taib will quit PAS in no time. Just wait and see.

  11. Kit Siang uses media to build a perception of what he's doing. It's a smart move because the media can push the message far. And it can be archived so people can always look up and goes - this is what this guy does at this time etc etc, even if - in actuality he didn't DO any of those thing - only reported that he did.

Ghani Othman gets down with the people - and it does show sincerity. I do really hope it pays off though - because the way politics is done now - the loud ones the reward. Don't want to sound pessimistic - but that's how it seems to be :(

    1. Dear Hans Solo.

I am no political analyst but I think Ghani is doing the right thing. Yes the media can push the message far and wide but only the constituents of Gelang Patah (GP) are voting for both of them and not everybody in GP, reads what's written, anyways. As a national DAP's motivation, it would be good, though. Locally, Ghani's method is more suitable.

That's huge crowd on Kit Siang's rally are just bragging and those attending are mainly hard core supporters from outstation. There are also many curious people and those just to show affiliation in fear of intimidation. Many among them are also SB or BN supporters. With that PAS & DAP logo high-up in the sky, their supporters could even reflects on what lawyer Norman Fernandez, the deputy state chairman of DAP Johor, just said about PAS' Hudud.

Since the Indians are back with BN, I think BN will win big, this time around.

    2. I am an analyst although not a political analyst. I saw similar situation and comment made in 2008 - big crowd does not necessarily equate to big votes. And, BN lost its 2/3 majority and more states. Do not take big crowd lightly and I notice that people do not think anymore these days. They will believe everything that they read and hear. The product of our education, perhaps? My apology for sneering our education system. BN has done good but there are rooms for improvement.

The way I see it, PAS has stronger supports from the malays than PKR does and DAP knows it. Hudud or no hudud, they can discuss it later. For now, the goal is to topple BN and if they wins, I believe PAS supporters will rejoice but who are the actual winners? From what I read and heard, only the Indians in DAP are against Hudud but how big is their influence in swinging votes compared to that of the Chinese? The Chinese could not care less with Hudud. But wait, what if there will be no Hudud after all. Wouldn't it like being flown to the moon in a rocket wearing cute green and white polka dots and left there for PAS supporters?

To the chinese Johoreans, who are most likely to be educated in Singapore, LKS is LKY/LHS come true. So, BN just cannot be complacent. Work hard, BN must.

  12. Grass roots report im receiving from muar is that the chinese vote has totally gone to the opposition. If this can happen in johor i fear the worse in other states. This is bad mixing racial politics with emotion. The grass roots also feel that 2/3 majority now is a distant dream esp with disgruntled umno members who are not chosen and malay vote split to umno and pas (pkr is nothing k) . Do i think bn will win yes, do i think racial polarization will become worse maybe irreparable yes.
