Thank you to the brave 55,290

Yesterday, I made this appeal

Please vote for Mukhriz

and  55,290 Umno delegates did vote for the Kedah Menteri Besar.

They made up more than a third of the 146,000 delegates who voted at the 191 Umno division meets nationwide.

A total of 92 divisions gave Mukhriz a collegiate vote each (the newspapers said it's 91 but I got my figures direct from the ground at PWTC).

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the 55,290 brave delegates who defied the orders not to vote Mukhriz in order to maintain the status quo.

If Umno is to survive GE14, those such as these 55,290 are the ones who are going to save it. They are the living proof that there is still a will to change within Umno.

As for Mukhriz, I would like to thank him for trying his best to prove that there is still hope for Umno to improve itself.

The fact that he didn't lose badly was a great consolation for me.

I'm actually in a pessimistic mood at the moment and therefore I feel that I shouldn't try to analyze the results for now as I may come out too strongly against the Umno establishment.

I always try to avoid writing in anger or when I'm in such a mood.

And with that, I'm switching on my music head, push on my relax button and try to enjoy this actually rather gloomy Sunday

  1. The hopelessness of online polls. The party members have spoken, now we should all support them fully.

The poll I conducted on the Umno elections was opened for all Malaysians to give an indication as to what they wish Umno to be. I believe those who took part were mostly non-Umno members who support what Umno stands for. Perjuangan untuk agama, bangsa dan tanahair. I'm included in this category. We support the party but are not bound to do so once we feel that those within it do not represent what Umno stands for. If we don't like Umno anymore, we are free to go elsewhere. We are the so-called fence-sitters who are the largest group of voters in the coming GE14. If Umno people like you think that our support for your party is not important, than it is alright with us. Umno people like you can go on syiok sendiri and think that you votes alone will win the GE14. Thank you.

    2. One of 29,

Ya,I am fence-sitters who voted for Umno last election.
Sangat menyedihkan kerana Umno tak pernah, tak mahu dan takkan berubah.Hanya menjaga kroni dan terlalu banyak liabiliti. Many of us will vote in next GE,so transformation definitely just a rubbish.

Money speaks and sings in bigger volume.. eh boleh ke ckp camtu? Apa-apa jelah.. umno might just have lost many potential votes as the status quo remained..

    8. I flew home to vote in GE13 and believe, I was 1 of the fence sitters who made sure Putrajaya (laterally & literally) is retained by umno/BN. With no love for umno as they like to adopts 'pi mai pi mai tang tu jugak' mantra (look at Putrajaya MP: year in-year out, the same guy lo), my hope for 'something new' was raised with the new candidates for the 2013 election. But alas, to no avail though I still have hopes that it can be realised before the GE14 , judging by the third who voted Mukhriz recently. Otherwise, I do not know how to vote next time.

Anyway, it is stupid for 'One of 29' and others (myself included, on hindsight) to say that Annie's online survey (or other bloggers) shall reflect reality. The sample here are totally different as the decision makers (i,e umno perwakilan) would not come here in droves to decide nor participate in the survey. It is just a channel to put in our view and further, it does not even constitute the Malaysian sample as org kampong/pendalaman were not even aware/care...example: my dad and sisters' family yg duk kat kampong and their jiran2 org2 kampung.

To Annie, do not take heart and fyi, Anon 18:35, dumno bloggers lah like Annie (outSyed, Big Dog, Din Turtle, Helen Ang) who had changed me from an ignorant Malaysian voters into somebody who is aware of the recent political dangers faced by the Malays specifically and Malaysia generally. Good to be celik mata but not so good for Dapsters, eh?

Cheers, Annie. I enjoyed you blogs in between mengcelikkan mata,

  2. Annie, the new system is worse than the previous system.

In the previous system, the candidate will have to take care of the 2000+ delegates, while now they only have to bribe the 198 division heads.

Najib can say persetan to the 55,290 who rooted for Mukhriz, for the next 3 years. Kalau fasal menipu rakyat, UMNO memang bijak dan banyak berpengalaman. Orang melayu pun memang senantiasa kena tipu.

Well I don't think so , at one time I was thinking PAS could be a second alternative for the Malay & Islam but look at what they are now ,there's no clear indication what they are standing for.
Though frustrated with the outcome of the Pemilihan UMNO ,but Melayu who believe in perjuangan UMNO jangan patah semangat ,if VP line up didn't change or could not be changed at a moment it's a clear indication that the president have to be changed , "transformation without transforming " cakap tak serupa bikin.

UMNO is UMNO the present's leadership that make UMNO stink's .

I sure hope that UMNO supporters in Sg. Limau could give it a pass, on nomination day. It does not matter anymore if PAS retain that seat. Its not that BN would achieve 2/3, anyway. Could even save Rakyat's money. No more ceramah and campaign which will divide the Malays further.

Kedah MB have tossed the idea of an EXCO slot to PAS, as a goodwill? Wonder what happen to that idea. A win for PAS, bodes well as a starter, though.

I seem to agree with Tebing Tinggi though, only if PAS could quit PR and get rid of those Anwaristas among them, come GE14.
Frustrated UMNO supporters would then have a better option rather than those tainted and corrupted millionaires being appointed, again and again.

  9. Annie, dont be too negative towards UMNO people. I am an UMNO people and I voted Mukhriz yesterday. Our Bahagian voted for Mukhriz too. I dont get any special treatment as what you all thought of UMNOPutra and I work my way on merit just like you. There are many like me in UMNO but yes, we are sidelined for many reasons that i dont wish to expose.I supported Mukhriz all the way through-out, and pray that he will win. I try to study his character as a person and son of a great Muslim leader in modern history. He is quiet, hard working, observant, humble, deep thinker, brilliant, principle, mature, high integrity (god, i cried when he use this strong word against TMI report) servant of the people, mix well with PAS, ulamak, professionals and politicians. He fight for his agama and ummah. With those strengths he will be a great leader one day. What else does the Malay wants in a leader? This is obviously different from the mama's boy. You know the rest.

The new challenge now are KJ people who are coming up after they graduated from Pemuda and also those who are young (who are not qualified intellectually and professionally) but contested in Cawangan and Bahagian leadership. They made it through many ways. Some of them support Mukhriz. People said about Hang Nadim legenda, its happening. They are making waves and its going to be another tsunami. Mark my word, there will be a legendary fight between 2 giants in history of modern Malay/UMNO in the future.

I will continue to support Mukhriz for his principles that goes deep to the heart of Malay like me. Dont bother about the langau. They will continue to make noise, but UMNO and Malay will still prevail. InsyaAllah.

Support him from within UMNO and outside UMNO for ا ب ت!

  11. Now that the dust has settled, the bone picking starts. Let me hazard a few takeaways from the slaughterhouse that was PAU 2013.

Remember this is from a disinterested observer inclined more towards movies and football now onwards given that Malay political hegemony is virtually dead...... or is it?

1.92 of the 191 divisions voted for Mukhriz along with 55K of the UMNO vote. What does this tell us given the so-called battle - as touted in pro-liberal rags like TMI - was between the Najib faction and the Mahathir faction.
Well it simply means the party is split right down the middle and if you factor in the votes for Ali Rustam and Isa which signify dissent against the status quo,the ground is actually intimating sullenly that steering the ship on a pro-liberal post-NEP (i.e completely jettisoning the tenets of the NEP) course is and will be inimical to UMNO's interests amongst the wider electorate.

In fact given that roughly 82K (56%) of approximately 146k delegates voted for other than H20 shows where the actual allegiance of the grassroots are: a preservation of Malay hegemony.

Now map that 56% onto the 63% of Malay support that UMNO gained in GE13 and you can make your own deductions given that the pro-liberal backed H20 vs Perjuangan backed Mukhriz battle was essentially a microcosmic rerun of the wider UMNO vs PAS Anwarista/PKR thingy of GE 13 with the pro-liberal UMNO group representing the PKR/PAS Anwarista in the equation.

    2. What interested me in these results was a certain outcome of little consequence within the UMNO context but of wider reverberations for the Malaysian polity. This occurred in the skirmish for the deputy leadership in a FELDA surrounded backwater called Temerloh yet a frontline in nascent Malay nationalism aka Mat Kilau and his Malay warriors of yore. Here the pro-liberal icon Saiffudin Abdullah was slaughtered for the second time.

Saifuddin the iconoclast of new Malay liberalism, who was recently anointed to helm some obscure global NGO carried the hopes of the liberal foray into a Malay conservative heartland and was unceremoniously butchered with even the third candidate coming close to toppling him in the delegate count. Even more importantly, Saifuddin’s defeat affirms where the Malay heartland will swing to when push comes to shove, i,e., to perjuangan Melayu.
Now do take note too that Saifuddin was culled in GE13 by a PAS ultra turban called Tantawi who is the epitome of Young Turk firebrand mullahism in PAS. What does that tell us? Simply that the Malay heartland, was, is and will not be swayed by liberal talk that waters down Malay privileges and by default, Malay political hegemony even it means giving an extreme Talibanist Wahhabi the vote. It affirms also my central point, put in syiok sendiri, condescending liberal candidates and the vote will swing to the other side. And if PAS and PKR play their cards right by pretending to take a pro-Malay strident line in 2018 then UMNO is effed big-time
    .
Its actually a double rejection of Saifuddinism- that holier than thou preachy liberal cant which pours cold water on everything Malay and Islam, that liberal garbage that says we have a level playing field in which merit thrives but where 75% or more of the private sector remains in non-Malay hands operating within anti-Malay segregationist style parameters. It is an outright rejection of that vainglorious liberal crap that says that we are Bangsa Malaysia but that yet cannot even eliminate a tri-language schooling system etcetera.

  12. Part 2 (conclusion)

This is what I missed conveying in my previous comment half a moon ago. The Malay heartland is strongly wedded to perjuanagan and any policy or initiative to wean them from that is doomed to failure. Hence, those who misread the signs in their gunghoism - and there are too many- are making a fatal mistake that will seal UMNO’s fate in GE18. And both the pro-liberal vs perjuangan Mukhriz tussle as well as Saifuddin’s political demise are troubling omens that are harbingers of things to come for UMNO and BN in 2018.

DAP adalah 'the king maker'.
