Khaled's claims of innocence and my reply

I took the following from the Facebook page of Johor Menteri Besar DS Mohd Khaled Nordin. I believe that his media handlers had requested for the newspapers to publish it today. Honestly, I doubt that Khaled had written it himself.
If I were to bet, I would place my wager on the piece actually being written by his political secretary who is also the Umno division chief of Lim Kit Siang's jajahan takluk.

Well, never mind.
My comments are in blue.

You want to wait until Johor is history for you to be judged? Like the history of Malacca Sultanate, is it?

Do you think those JCS people are keeping their mouth shut, Khaled? Do you think those low ranking officers at the government agencies are blind and do not see what is going on? Everyone in Johor knows what is going on. They just don't say anything because they were either scared or just don't give a crap, ok. I suggest you go and ask the Orang Asli Seletar at Kampung Bakar Batu on the opposite side of Danga Bay, whether they know what are going on. Those people are more honest than the average Johoreans. I believe they also have heard something about this matter.

Please list down three instances when you had directly advised Tuanku Sultan ever since you become the MB over a year ago. Got or not?

So, on the matter of land, you do advise Tuanku is it?  Okay, please then tell Johoreans what was your advise when Tuanku wanted to sell that parcels of land in Nusajaya to the Chinese company for over RM4 billion. Is that State land or Tuanku's own land? Do you know how damaging that land deal was to Tuanku's reputation? There are other examples, but let me stop at that.

Let's not talk about history, ok. Let's talk about what you had done for Johoreans over the past one year since you become MB. Anything significant?

Ya, the problem is that you had done exactly nothing. That's harmful to Johoreans.

Okay Khaled, how many times have you said NO to Tuanku since you became MB? Once, twice, thrice?

What do you expect Khaled? Everyone to keep quiet about it? It's your duty to protect Tuanku from being ridiculed and you had failed.

If the initial draft of the enactment was in accordance with the Constitution, then why do you need to go and amend it before tabling it at the State assembly? And come on la Khaled, don't go running around and hide behind old history as basis that what you did with the enactment was right. Most people don't give a shit about it, ok.

Enakmen LPHJ adalah sama sepertimana semasa kita hendak menubuhkan Johor Corporation (JCorp) dahulu. Sedikit pun tidak berubah. Sama juga sepertimana ketika saya mengetuai Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi dahulu, kita hendak menubuhkan Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia, pelantikan anggota lembaga, pengerusi, ketua eksekutif semuanya mestilah dilakukan atas perkenan Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Di negeri, Sultan yang memainkan peranan tersebut.
What's wrong with you Khaled. JCorp is a private entity while the board would be part of the Johor's executive branch. It's a totally different thing. In JCorp case, it doesn't involve the direct executive power of the State, but that's not the case with the board. You understand that or not? Or are you trying to fool the orang kampung?

Again, if nothing was wrong with it, why you need to make changes to the initial draft in the final hours before its tabling? Why not just tabled it as it is? Just ignore la all those complaints. Yes, that includes the complaints on this matter by former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Khaled, do you think Dr Mahathir is a fool for opposing the enactment?

Go and ask your boys how rich they are now after just a year being the special officers of the Johor MB. Go to the Kota Iskandar parking lot and check out what cars they were driving. You want me to name your special officer who wears a Rolex watch?

Muafakat membawa Berkat
Memang muafakat membawa berkat, tapi jangan sampai muafakat rompak harta negeri sudah lah.

Allah Berkati Johor
Amen

Improvement in infrastructure & service provided in opposition state?

You can't be talking about Kelantan right? That backward state trying to introduce an archaic criminal law?

Or are you talking about Penang where jams aplenty & the hills are raped to fill the pockets of developers? I don't think much about their service improvement when the CM's car is photographed parking to a no parking sign. The enforcement must need new glasses, one would assume.

If it is Sean gor you're referring to, I thought water was aplenty there until 2019? And I do wonder why workshops are doing roaring business with cars needing to change their absorbers frequently. And the rubbish piling up alongside the increasing rodent population is an indication how the state is thriving post BN rule.

Have successive Johor state governments ever run a budget surplus?

Has Johor Corp and the other investment arms of the state government brought in high-end investments and good jobs for Johoreans?

Have they positioned Johor Bahru into a modern dynamic metropolis with efficient infrastructure, public services and public transport system?

  14. I dont understand why Khalid Nordin should lie to the public, especially Johor's. He is the Chairman of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ). Yet someone higher up is controlling the Company. He cant even control the CEO Datuk Moy, who had claimed that his monthly remuneration is being determined by the Sultan.

Forest City is owned by Country Garden and supposedly KPRJ. It will be managed by Country Garden Pacific View Sdn Bhd (CGPV). 34% of CGPV is owned by the Sultan under Esplanade Danga 88 Sdn Bhd. KPRJ has no share in CGPV. CEO of KPRJ reports to the Sultan not MB Khaled Nordin.

Land for the Forest City is owned by a dummy company owned by the Sultan's crony. For the use of KPRJ's name, KPRJ was paid RM300 millions after title issued. The title is freehold. Daeng Malek is board member of CGPV.

Khalid Nordin, janganlah nak tipu orang Johor.

This is to ensure that RM is shielded from forex speculation and ensuring that our Export and FDI are attratctive enough to the investor. SINGAPORE -- Singapore's state-owned investment company Temasek Holdings Pte. 10. MAS posts S$10b net loss as Singapore dollar soars

SINGAPORE — The Republic’s central bank posted a S$10.61 billion net loss in its last fiscal year as the local dollar’s gains against the yen and euro diminished the value of its foreign currency holdings.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) also said the city-state’s economy will “comfortably” meet the official growth forecast of 1-3 per cent for 2013, while inflation for the full year is expected to come in at 2-3 per cent, lower than the earlier estimate of 3-4 per cent.

MAS’s loss for the financial year ended March 2013, its second in three years, was just slightly below the record S$10.9 billion deficit incurred in financial year 2010/11 when the Singapore dollar also soared.

    11. The Real CPF Problem

      Part 1

The Singaporean government recently increased the minimum amount required for Central Provident Accounts which as caused concern among many people. Given that I have written numerous times about CPF, I will only recap the highlights before moving on to my primary topic about CPF today.

First, the Central Provident Fund is vital to understand Singapore government finances. The CPF pays 2.5-4% on funds from savers but then loans that money to the government who issue long term debt securities and unsurprisingly pays a nearly identical weighted amount on what it borrows. The Singapore government then invests the money in different ways, and by all appearances, keeps whatever in excess of the 2.5-4% it earns. The CPF is a central organization to understand Singapore public finances.

Second, despite Singapore government claims to the contrary, the CPF is imposing enormous implicit taxes or costs on Singaporean savers. If the average Singaporean had earned the average Singaporean wage since 1980 and saved the amount required by law but earned the GIC long term average rather than CPF interest, the average Singaporean would have approximately $850,000 SGD in the bank. This is approximately $300,000 more than they would have earned with the same amount of savings in a CPF account. To put this number in perspective, Singaporeans pay higher fees than what the typical hedge fund would charge. The Singaporean government is directly harming everyday Singaporeans by mandating savings into a seriously under-performing asset for the governments benefit.

Third, Singapore operates a one sided model where the tax payer assumes the risk but the government gets the benefit. If the investments do well, the government keeps everything above the 2.5-4% CPF interest payment; if the investments do poorly, and let’s assume, the CPF collapses, the tax payer will guarantee the payment to CPF holders. In other words, risks are socialized while benefits are privatized.

More important than the technical shortcomings of the CPF is how Singaporeans think of CPF, Temasek, and GIC. Officially, the Singapore government holds more than $800 billion in financial assets. Temasek holds more than $200 billion SGD and GIC is estimated to hold around $400 billion of that total $800 billion. Despite official pleadings to the contrary, Temasek and GIC are not private companies they are owned by the government, controlled by the government, and key officials are appointed by the government. Temasek was created out of privatizing government assets. SingTel, the largest holding of Temasek, was created from the Singapore Telecoms and Post Office Ministry. DBS was originally the state owned Development Bank of Singapore. These were and still are public assets. A similar story holds true for GIC and CPF.

The assets of Temasek, GIC, and the CPF are the assets of the people of Singapore. Only in certain people’s imagination are Temasek and GIC assets private and separate from the people of Singapore. The earnings in excess of 2.5-4% that the government keeps for itself that it does not return to CPF savers are directly harming Singaporeans who are on average $300,000 poorer. GIC and Temasek assets that the government insists are private despite all evidence to the contrary demonstrate the governments disdain for the blessing of the financial bounty it has received from the Singaporean taxpayer.

    12. The Real CPF Problem

      Part 2

Kenneth Jayaretnam has proposed privatizing and floating Temasek and GIC to then distribute shares to the public. There are many variations of this basic idea. For instance, CPF savers could earn some amount tied to GIC or Temasek or the social security system could be privatized like Chile with savers allowed to invest via private asset managers. Though the government claims to seek an ownership society, the mechanism and returns of the CPF are much closer in reality to the United States social security system where the government uses contributions as a cheap pool of borrowing with extremely low rates paid for contributions. In fact, the most recent US social security actuarial report says that low income earners receive a higher total real return than Singaporean CPF savers in nominal terms. Giving people ownership of the assets Singaporeans created and linking their savings to the returns of those firm would create an actual ownership society.

As a matter of prudence, I support raising the CPF minimum to ensure income levels for the elderly in the future. However, the easiest and fairest way to accomplish this objective is to pay CPF savers a fair return for the investments that they are funding. The government should not be allowed to confiscate earnings above and beyond the rate it pays on CPF funds. It is complete hypocrisy by the government to publicize the supposedly amazing job it does managing Temasek and GIC which supposedly earn 16% since inception from public assets and 7% in USD term over 20 years from public assets, then plead poverty when paying CPF holders a paltry 2.5%. The wealth of Singapore which has been funded by the Singaporean people belongs to the Singaporean people.

An ownership society requires that owners of capital the CPF savers are compensated based upon market rates, have the ability to move their funds to higher earning investments, receive information about their investments, and how much they are paying their investment managers. The Singaporean government refuses to provide any of this information hiding basic information that would be considered standard information in the marketplace or if owned. Tragic stories of Singaporean unable to access their considerable savings they supposedly “own” demand government accountability.

The Singaporean people are the ones to demand answers and changes to how their money is managed.

    14. LOL....what is the point of your voluminous postings, complete with "cut and paste"? Any reasonably intelligent netizen can do the same.

And, yet, there are the " hard" facts.

Let's see - in no particular order of importance:

      1. Singapore is a triple-A-rated economy. Malaysia has a A- rating. Go check what S&P, Fitch and Moody's have said in their analyses of the Singapore economy and finances.

      2. Malaysians are flocking to work in Singapore. Not vice versa. Why are Johoreans (of a certain race, shall we say) working as fast food deliverymen in Singapore?

      3. How much of the FDI that has come into ASEAN gone to Singapore?

    17. LOL has gone MIA. Typical of the trolls who infest the social media

Note that all his posted diarrhea about Singapore has not affected the confidence of investors in the city-state one bit.

All the rankings vis-à-vis Singapore and Malaysia show this.

Best airport? Check. Best sea port? Check. Best airline? Check (of course, this is a given, since MAS has gone into deep doo-doo-dom). Best universities in Asean? Check. Top investment destination in Asean? Check.

So, LOL is reduced to mouthing off. It must be galling to be so thoroughly ignored by those who matter - like foreign investors, MNCs, global powers etc.

      Back to topic.

How many Mentris Besar has Johor had since Merdeka?

      What have they achieved?

    19. The latest UNCTAD 2014 World Investment Report bears this out. See the article in today's Star newspaper.

Malaysia ranked 4th in Asean, in terms of net FDI inflows in 2013, behind Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand (yup, Thailand which lurches from one political crisis to another).

It seems that Singapore, a pipsqueak city-state, managed to attract approximately 5 times net FDI inflows in 2013 than did Malaysia.

So, LOL is still wanting to diss on Singapore?

He'd better ask Miti and Mida how come Singapore is getting more FDI than Malaysia. If he has the guts to do so, that is.....

And today the Singapore Straits Times carried a report on PM Lee Hsien Loong meeting with top US officials in Washington, DC, including Fed chairman Janet Yellen, US Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, Treasury Secretary Lew etc. Not bad for a pipsqueak city-state leader!

Today's Singapore Business Times paper carried a report on red light warning signals about Iskandar Malaysia, especially the massive Chinese property developments there.

I am sure that PM Najib's news minders would have brought this to his attention. Hopefully!

Khaled used JCorp as an example but JCorp was incorporated before the Constitutional crisis. Therefore, shouldn't the setting up of any board like LPNJ take into account the amendments made in the Constitution post-crisis?
Also, do we need a wheeler and dealer to sell state land to investors from China? Can't the state do it on its own, therefore reaping maximum gains which can benefit the rakyat?
