Ramadhan rambling and a beautiful Chinese wedding

Since it's Ramadhan, I decided to post nice things as much as I can instead of getting everyone agitated with all the political, racial and religious nonsense.

Well, you can get lots of hits by posting about those stuff, especially if you can get everyone riled up against each other, but what's the point lah.

It's not going to do us and this country any good, okay.

For instance, getting Malays to hate the Chinese and the Chinese to hate Malays back - seriously, how can that be good for all of us?

Okay, I know some people have to do those nasty stuff to earn a living, but you all please just ignore them lah.

For me, I don't have to do all that shit because I'm blogging just for fun.

And my idea of fun nowadays is that, if I can make people be friends and at peace with one another.

Seriously, what's the fun in sowing hatred and unhappiness among fellow Malaysians.

I did try it once and it didn't make me happy at all.

And all that whacking of people are not going to do any good too, okay.

It's just an ego trip of trying to put down others in the hope of promoting oneself as being clever and influential.

That's so shallow, if you ask me.

On the political front, tomorrow is the polling day in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.

Well, just vote lah. No need to kecoh and create havoc.

Whatever the outcome, we just accept it.

Then life goes on.

As for all the alleged wrongdoings of these and that people, if they are true, let's pray that those responsible be punished one way or another.

I believe that Allah is fair and will make sure justice will prevail in the end.

We do our best under the circumstances, but if we hit a brick wall and can't proceed any further, then let's just pray for Allah to take care of things.

And of course Allah will take care of things.

There's no need for us to get all worked up, where brothers and sisters become enemies because of what happened.

In short, be cool and have some faith in Allah.

Anyway, I'm doing this posting not because I wanted to ramble all the above. That one just so happened as I started writing.

I tend to do that.

I actually just want to highlight this beautiful Chinese wedding I found on YouTube,

See, Malay Muslims, some Chinese are very similar to you all. So don't hate them, okay.

I know, that couple are in China, but that does not mean our Chinese here can't be the same.

They are all humans and Allah's creations, just like us.

And we are all Malaysians.

  1. The banquet of the wise and despised:

"One day, it happened that someone said something to someone, who said something to someone else, who somehow formed the impression I was an important person. The result of this chain of folly was that I was invited to be the guest of honor at a banquet.

I was puzzled but honored to be given such an invitation. At the appointed day I presented myself at the door of the banquet hall. I had walked all day in my usual simple garb to get to the city in which the banquet was being held, and I suppose I could have used some freshening up. At any rate, the guards at the door took one look at me and barred the door.

"But I'm Nasruddin, the guest of honor!"

"Of course you are!" the guards laughed. One of them retorted, "And I am the caliph himself!" At which they both roared with laughter. Still chuckling, they said, "Go away, old man, and don't let us see you here again!"

I obliged them with the first part of their request. The banquet hall was located on the city square, and I recognized a friend's house on the opposite side. I walked there and knocked. My friend answered.

"Nasruddin!" he embraced me and we gave each other warm greetings and gratitude to Allah, glorious and merciful is He. I came right to the point.

"Do you remember that red brocade coat you wanted to give me last year?" I asked.

"Certainly! It still hangs in my closet, waiting for you. Are you ready to receive it?"

"With gratitude," I replied. "Do you have other plans for it?"

"What do you mean, Nasruddin?" he asked.

"I just wondered if you would like the coat back after I have borrowed it?"

"Oh, no, Nasruddin! It is yours to keep and do with what you wish!"

"Just so, my friend. Thank you." I visited for a brief while, then received the coat and put it on. I made my apologies and departed back across the square, adorned with a dazzling brocade coat with gold brade and colored stones lining the epaulets. The buttons were ivory, the fastenings were jet black. All in all, I was a wonderful sight.

The guards bowed low at my approach, and ushered me into the banquet hall. The table was richly laid, and all the guests were there. Someone showed me to a seat at the head of the table, and announced "The august, the wise, the true Nasruddin!" I sat, and everyone else sat at the same moment.

They all watched expectantly, waiting to see what the guest of honor would do. The first course was soup. When it was served, all eyes were on me. I picked up my bowl of soup and stood, holding it high. Then I poured the soup down the front of my coat.

The guests were astounded. A gasp arose so that the air was almost sucked from the room. Then they broke into remonstrations and shouts. "What are you doing! What are you thinking!"

When it was quiet enough for me to speak, I addressed my coat. "O wonderful coat, I hope you have enjoyed that delicious soup. Clearly it is you who are welcome here, not I!"

    2. This story remind me about our zen story also. About the delusion identity of the ego and peoples vanity:

When one goes to Obaku temple in Kyoto he sees carved over the gate the words "The First Principle". The letters are unusually large, and those who appreciate calligraphy always admire them as being a mastepiece. They were drawn by Kosen two hundred years ago.

When the master drew them he did so on paper, from which the workmen made the large carving in wood. As Kosen sketched the letters a bold pupil was with him who had made several gallons of ink for the calligraphy and who never failed to criticise his master's work.

"That is not good," he told Kosen after his first effort.

      "How is this one?"

"Poor. Worse than before," pronounced the pupil.

Kosen patiently wrote one sheet after another until eighty-four First Principles had accumulated, still without the approval of the pupil.

Then when the young man stepped outside for a few moments, Kosen thought: "Now this is my chance to escape his critical eye," and he wrote hurriedly, with a mind free from self-consciousness: "The First Principle."

      "A masterpiece," pronounced the pupil.

    3. "Fair in the eyes of men is the love [hubb] of things they covet: Women and sons; hoarding heaps of gold and silver; horses branded (for their blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world's life; but nearness to Allah (ie. soul peace & true happiness) is the best of goals."
      (Quran, Ali Imran: 14)

"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love [mawadda] and mercy between your [hearts]: Verily in that are Signs for those who reflect."

  3. Annie,

//They are all humans and Allah's creations, just like us.//

I find it quite sad that such statements need to be made.

As an atheist, I am often told that I should turn to religion to provide me with the guidance to be a better person.

I do wonder when I can see that religion in Malaysia has brought nothing but misery, narrow-mindedness, misogyny, intolerance, conflict, suspicion, etc.

The only beneficiaries of religion in Malaysia seem to be the religious authorities who enforce the religious laws.

Maybe one day, the power of those zealous religious authorities will be broken and people will be able to worship their god in the way they want and not the way they are forced to do so.

  4. On one side of the ring, we have little Annie urging for peace, love, friendship and all things beautiful. On the other side of the ring is her bigger sister motivating the opposite of all that. Whom should we cheer for? Malaysia's so crazy now, I really don't know but if I really have to choose, it's 6:4 A:H

Either we tear everything down and start a new world or we continue as we have all these years but with greater tolerance of our different cultures and faiths.
