GEORGE TOWN, June 30 2016 : Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng claimed trial in the High Court here today to two corruption charges involving a piece of land and a bungalow.
On the first charge, he is accused of using his position as chief minister for himself and his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng’s interest to approve the conversion of a piece of land from its status as an agricultural land to residential land and transferring it to a company, Magnificient Emblem Sdn Bhd.
Lim, 56, allegedly committed the offence while chairing a State Planning Committee meeting on the 28th floor at Komtar, George Town here on July 18, 2014.
The charge under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 carries a maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. – BernamaWell, I'm inclined to believe that Guan Eng will really kena this time.
I'm sure the authorities had done their investigations properly and got all the necessary evidence.
A water-tight case, so to speak.
Otherwise, I don't think they would take the risk of prosecuting Guan Eng, who is a bit like a demi-god among his supporters.
One thing for sure, this will be the end of the DAP's Lim dynasty.
I remember back in the late 90's when Guan Eng went to prison for criminally slandering the then Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik, many DAP people abandoned him and his family.
He hardly have any friend when he came out of prison a year later.
I believe the same will happen again this time.
Of course DAP will try to win public sympathy over the case, but after a while they will have to move on.
Betty will go up and down the country to plead support for her husband but she won't be able to do that forever.
After the next general election which increasingly look like it's going to be a walkover for BN, the whole thing will fades away.
Once you are out, no one really loves you anymore.
In a way, DAP is also a bit like Umno....or is it the other way around?
It's the nature of the beast.
I just hope that they don't slap Guan Eng with the maximum jail sentence of 20 years imprisonment.
Can't imagine what Guan Eng looks like 20 years from now.
A 76 years old Guan Eng.....hmmmmm....
But I suspect he will still be looking like this,
Except older, I guess.
Living next to you (O politikus) is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered the beast is - if I can characterize it that way - one is affected by its every (beastly) twitch and grunt.ReplyDelete

Don't like LGE but what about Jibby's billions and 1MDB? Selective persecution and proeecution.ReplyDelete
seriously, if you think LGE is innocent until proven guilty, under what circumstances would anyone declare Najib guilty?ReplyDelete
Under what circumstances could anyone declare anyone else guilty of misdemeanour except by means of the due process of law, of an "unhampered" course of justice!Delete
Give Najib a chance to proof it in courtDelete
As if that easy to drag him to court. When a person is seemingly immune to being impeached in parliament with a speaker who is a lame duck, when a person who can't be prosecuted challenged, accused , indicted , arraigned , charged and brought to court to face justice with an accommodative AG around ,who is trigger happy to shoot any adverse reports , when a person who wont allow himself to be questioned, criticized and cast aspersions on, with a horde of awestruck minions to protect him and be his spokespersons when there is a tweet king to twat away reports on this person as subversive and seditious then what can the ordinary rakyat do except watch the birdies fly by. The Sampoenian did tore up his portrait as it is better than tearing their hairs out.Delete
Najib should be presumed innocent until guilty too but the law must be allowed to try and prove his guilt just like the law is allowed to try and prove LGE's guilt. Why such unequal treatment under the law?Delete

LGE can get the best lawyers to defend him.All I am going to say, good luck to Lim Guan EngReplyDelete
This a political prosecution. The dictator is all out to ensure the opposition leaders are put in jail even for fabricated reasons. LGE will be found guilty and sent to jail for not less than 5 years. Rafizi will follow suit with minimum 10 years and then Tony Pua. Everything is now under his control - the police,MACC,SPR, the media and the judiciary.ReplyDelete
If the opposition does not win GE 14(which they will not because it will be manipulated to favour the dictator since even MACC is also under his control), most of them will spend their lives in jail for a long time.
The dictator will continue to rule with his bunch of thieves and by that time, even Nigeria and Zimbabwe economy and government is better than Malaysia. Money will be stolen as though it belongs to them with more Birkin bags and jewelleries to be delivered to the dictator’s fat hippo.
This case is nowhere the same as Khir Toyo. Khir Toyo bought his bungalow below the seller’s purchased price and the seller was forced to sell at that price if not risk losing his contracts with Selangor government at that time.In fact the seller was the one reported to SPRM. In the case of LGE, he bought above the seller’s purchase price and based on willing buyer- willing seller.
I bought my house in PJ 30 years ago at RM100k. Market value is now RM1 million. So I can sell my house to Jibby in 2016 for RM200k? It's above my purchase price so by your logic should be ok. What - 30 years too long? 20 years ok? 10 years ok? How about 7 years (2008-2015)? We draw the line there.Delete
And there is no doubt that Najis will go down in infamy as our worst and most dishonest PM of all time worst of all, a hypocrite. Talk about supporting hudud and Islam, and then with the left hand pass money to your stepson to make soft porn movies and buy luxury penthouses in the US.ReplyDelete
Guan Eng will definitely be slapped with the maximum jail sentence of 20 years. The judgement has been pre-prepared and the trial is just a show as the whole world knows that this is a political prosecution(except dedak eaters, eunuchs (males who were rendered incapable of sexual acts by mutilation and castration—grew to serve the emperors’ special needs) and some beruk here.ReplyDelete
Let's compare some facts here;
LGE bought the bungalow with his own money vs
1) Malaysian Official 1 (MoF1) who stole from the rakyat RM2.6b and ended in his personal account, statement from AG.
2. MoF1 who stole from the rakyat RM42m and ended in his personal account, statement from AG and went on shopping spree with the stolen money. AG claims that MoF1 does not know that SRC (a subsidiary of den of thieves aka 1MDB) deposited that amount into his private account but strangely the money was never returned and no one from SRC was charged for "wrongfully" depositing RM42m into MoF1 personal account. The whole world knows the 2 Directors are hiding in Batam but our police is not interested to issue interpol red notice for them. Instead they issued interpol red notice for the whistle blower.
3) DoJ has just confirmed another USD 3.5b was siphoned by MoF1 and shared among his partners in crime.
If buying a bungalow with your own money will cause you to be jailed 20 years, then for those crimes mentioned above (Atlantuya,Najadi & Kevin Morais not included yet),then the jail term should not be less than 20,000 years. This means MoF1 next 400 generations (assuming lifespan of 50 years each) will be known as descendants of a criminal.
