Victory in Hanoi and a lecture for stupid Japanese

I have not been blogging the past few days mainly because there was nothing out there of late which inspires me to write.

Then, this happened last night,

Malaysia through to AFF Suzuki Cup final after downing Vietnam

I had actually written the national team off after they lost 2-1 in the first leg here.

I thought they could never reverse the deficit in Hanoi and was not even bothered to watch the match.

The news of Malaysia's victory came as I was driving home from work along the MAX highway.

Upon hearing it, I was telling myself, "Hey, the team was so pathetic the other day, but if they can bounced back like that, other Malaysians should then not give up either. We too can bounce back from anything negative in this country."

And of course, I should at my personal level be able to be positive again.

Honestly, I was wondering how the country is to pull through the current situation where among others, oil prices continuing to plummet, the government being battered from all sides and ringgit continuing to shrink in value compared to several other main currencies.

I was worried over the possibility of another severe economic crisis as what happened during the late 1990s.

I was wondering how the administration of DS Najib Razak is to survive and BN under him to convince the voters three years from now at the next general election that the coalition is still the best to lead the country.

In fact, I was wondering whether Najib can survive a possible challenge to his leadership of Umno if the next party elections is to be held as scheduled before the next general election.

Basically, it was doom and gloom all the way.

Earlier in the week, I met some Japanese guys and hanged out with them for a while.

Our conversation inevitably led to politics. One of them who probably read a bit too much of the pro-Pakatan portals started to criticize the government, particularly the policies which lend assistance to the bumiputera.

Normally, I just laugh it off, but somehow, due to my dark mood at that moment, I gave him back a rather rude lecture,

"Imagine this, when you all Japanese were defeated in the Second World War, the Americans who occupied your land decided that you all are bad people and don't want to have anything to do with you all.

"And the Americans were right, you all were quite nasty during the war.

"The Americans then started to bring in a lot of Chinese workers into Japan.

"These Chinese were allowed to live exclusively among themselves and even have their own education system.

"They were also given preferential treatment when it comes to doing business so that they eventually control Japan's economy.

"By the time the Americans wanted to pull out of Japan, the Chinese immigrants have made up about 30 per cent of Japan's population.

"Then the Americans told you all Japanese that if you want to have your country back, you have to accept the Chinese immigrants as citizens and they must be allowed to live the way they were without being integrated into your Japanese society.

"What do you think would had happened then?"

There was quite a long pause as the Japanese guys tried to find an answer.

"No, it didn't happened that way. The Americans would never had done that to us," said the smart guy who had earlier been criticizing Malaysia.

Japanese children with American aid packages which prevented them from starving right after the war
"Never mind," I replied back.

Stupid Japanese.

Anyway, since now I'm feeling a bit more cheerful that Malaysia is Boleh again due to the victory in Hanoi, I think I will keep reminding myself that the fight is not yet over.

Must try till the very last.

It is bad enough with some Malaysians kissing American a**e but I guess one needs to be nuked twice to love your former enemies so much.

  6. The Seri Petaling Poll on English Proficiency

The poll asked people in the Seri Petaling area in Kuala Lumpur this morning for their response to Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who was puzzled over the low standard of spoken English among students.

'Goreng pisang' (fried bananas) seller Azizah (right) lamented that only the rich can send their children to private schools for them to improve their English.

“If you go to normal primary schools, students there cannot speak English. Even teachers nowadays cannot speak English!”

She said that this is because teachers themselves communicate in Malay, which led to the young not being able to converse in English.

“Correct the teachers first, only then can they teach students to converse in English,” she said.

In order that maximum chance is given to even the poor to do better in life, and the country become more prosperous, English must taught and used until it is a common language in the country.

  10. The blame should be put onto the most happy and liberal prime minister that had ever existed in the whole galaxy for giving free citizenship to everything that walks n crawls sometime ago. These creatures proliferate quite well it seemed from their parasitic activities..after sucking their host almost dry they dare said they are not thriving. Their fear no god and care for naught as their mere existence are solely for money. They ceaselessly moan and groan should all their needs be not fullfilled. Nothing can satisfy their greed and lust.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah...blame it on the Tunku...so careless give away free citizenship to all pendatangs..If he had not agreed to give away citizenship for independence we might be still under British rule and who knows..our country may be as great and as rich as all the develop countries in the world including that red dot down under. And we dont have the problem of vernacular schools vs sekolah kebangsaan as all of us will go to english schools and solve the problem of race integration from young. Then we dont have the problem of low standard of english in our country.

  12. 60% of japenese are of chinese origin. and the rest mostly are japan origin people or orang asli. their ancentors came during shin huang ti times. about 3000 dynaty chin people in 300 ships and never ever to return to china. well for the case of the chinese ansentors in malaya probably the malayan orang asal said "kesian kebuluran kat negara china". mereka mati matian nak cari makan. just like what the orang besar now are saying to the bangla. kesian kat mereka mati matian nak kerja. kasi masuk!!!!!! sini berlambak kerja sampai mereka rela datang sebagai pati.

  14. Why Ms. Annie, the Chinese side of your family controls the economy izzit? I cannot understand the reasoning of people who drive into Chinese areas and say "why all shops are Chinese?" Chinese areas as a percentage of land mass in the Peninsula is quite small I'm sure.

The Americans themselves don't seem to have a problem with their Chinatowns. Most of them probably started as ethnic ghettos but are now cultural landmarks. English is not the main language in these areas. How many USA ppl are complaining that Mandarin/Cantonese signboards clutter the area? How many fly into a rage that many of the older gen Chinese there dunno any English?

    2. So you'll be happy if the Chinese were poor. If that was the case, you will gladly enable them to have their own schools, languages, and living areas. I always suspected pro-BN ppl didn't want to be better off as much as they want other ppl do be worse off.

  15. U see annie, the malays can do it. In Malaysia, some "crude oil" are still playing "their" game, lowering the pride and "price" of others. They tend to forget who they are, selling at loss but still behaving like drunken gorillas !

The tigers still rest low but finally, the victory !

  17. Dear Annie,
I am intrigued with your take on 'stupid Japanese'.
In my experience of living and working with Japanese for the last 17 years, I would say that in general, they are not that capable of being 'empathy' and sometimes can be quite shallow too. Yes, they work hard, very well mannered, a disciplined society and so forth, but I came to this conclusion for myself long ago - "I love Japan dearly and I am very grateful to live here but I am glad that I was not born a Japanese".

  19. What is Going On?

The Star: Malaysia is among the top five countries in the world where employees expect a good pay rise and year-end bonus, according to a survey.

Malaysiakini: Media Prima Bhd, the largest media group in the country, is expected to see a shake-up in its management as hundreds of staff members are leaving the company next week under a mutual separation scheme (MSS). Staff from all levels in the company, from journalists to people in the top management, have taken up the offer given under the company’s downsizing programme.

Malaysiakini: Some 30 Bernama TV (BTV) employees went back on leave yesterday over unpaid remuneration, two days after being paid partial back-pay of RM500 for the month of November. In a letter sighted by Malaysiakini, the staff said they would be "unable to (be) present at work due to financial constraints from Dec 10 until full salary (is) paid by Bernama TV Synergy."

Kadir Jasin: Putrajaya must come clean on the fact that the country’s economy is on a downtrend instead of creating the false impression that everything is well, said Datuk A. Kadir Jasin. The former group editor-in-chief of the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) said the government should rationally and openly share economic data with the public instead of being evasive.

Not sure if the above analogy is in anyway historically accurate. It was not the British who brought the Chinese to Malaysia, it was the Sultans, first in Perak for tin mining, then Selangor and Johor for growing pepper. The Kapitan China system was something already in use on Malaya since the Malacca Sultanate times.

So blaming 100% the British, when the Sultans where making money giving concessions to Chinese Kapitan's to manage the mines, grow pepper etc is wrong.

Secondly, it is not clear to me what preferential treatment the British gave the Chinese.

Our history has been bastardised enough for political purposes, let's stick to the entire set of facts rather than nitpicking bits that agree with our thinking.

    Kind Regards
