Padang Serai and Tioman: Most Malays don't seem to like the PH-BN union

The outcome of polling for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in Kedah and Tioman state seat in Pahang indicated that most Malays are not very enthusiasticly supportive of the so-called PH-BN unity government.

Padang Serai, which was won by PKR over the last three general elections was yesterday taken over by Perikatan with a more than convincing majority while the BN candidate, who have hold the Tioman seat also for the past three terms saw his majority reduced by more than half from that he won in 2018.

In Padang Serai, PN's Azman Nasrudin received 51,637 or 56.49 per cent of the votes to beat PH's Mohamad Sofee Razak, who received 35,377 or 38.70 per cent of the votes.

The constituents in Padang Serai are 62.34 per cent Malays, 19.30 per cent Indians, 17.64 per cent Chinese, and less than one per cent of other ethnicities.

Let's say PH got all the non-Malay votes, that's 37.94 per cent from the total votes. After all, over 90 per cent of non-Malays voted for PH in the recently concluded GE15.

That nonetheless means the PH candidate got only about one per cent from the 62.34 per cent Malay votes.

Of course the voters turn out was 68.95 per cent, but still the racial percentage should be about the same as the total number of eligible voters.

Most glaringly, PKR's winner candidates for the constituency in the past three general elections were Indians while for this one, the guy they put there is a Malay.

That suggests the Malays in Padang Serai are this time quite united to give the seat to PN.

Also should be noted that almost 3,000 voters still voted for BN despite its Indian candidate's announcement that he had pulled out of the race in support of the PH candidate.

These voters I believe are BN hardcore supporters who couldn't make themselves give their votes to either PN or PH. They are probably Umno rebels who now hate the party's leadership.

The situation looks the same in Tioman where the constituents are almost 90 per cent Malays.

BN managed to cling on to the seat but only barely.

Its candidate Johari Hussain won by a majority of only 573 compared to 1,280 in 2018.

PN has definitely made its inroad on the island as well as other parts of Pahang.

MB Rosdy bravely said BN's win in Tioman means the people (particularly the Malays) have accepted the PH-BN union, but I think he was saying that just to make himself feels good more than anything else.

Deep in his heart, I believe, Rosdy must be saying "Shit, something needs to be done or otherwise we are going to lose the whole state in the next election".

I honestly don't know what Umno could do to stop the PN's advances, particularly among the Malays.

Talks among Umno people indicated that things will not change.

Zahid, after all has 130 division chiefs in his pocket.

Now that he's DPM, there's more reason to believe that he will stay as Umno president all the way to the next general election.

And so would those division chiefs in his pocket.

Therefore, I expect no change in Umno despite all the indications that Malays are switching to Pas and Bersatu.

I expect things would be worse for Umno if Anwar's government fails to handle the coming recession, causing the rakyat, particularly Malays to suffer more than ever.

Even now, the Malays appear to be rejecting the current government, what's more if they have to endure more hardship over the next five years.

-How to be supportive? Tie pun tak pakai..He gives a bad example to young people out there. Is he trying to defy the West by refusing to wear a tie like government people in Iran? This out of norm dress code is quite radical to the rest of Malaysians who used to immaculately dressed in official function.

-Winning a paltry 30 seats out of 100 plus seats contested shows the party going from bad to worst. There’s a lot of ground lost especially in Malay majority areas. Umno have surely slowly turns into a mosquito party with pockets of support here and there.

-It is not just Umno but the rest of other political parties. With the current PN is advancing pushing everyone else aside, it seems nothing can stop them. With this kind of momentum, PH would find themselves having difficulty forming government and Negeri Sembilan and Selangor in the next state elections. Worst case scenario they probably lose both states to PN.

  4. Not only Zahid. PM pun pening. Nampak saja tenang. He got to do something quickly to get his reputation back when he mooted the reformasi movement. Dia ingat orang Melayu suka cara dia kempen sebelum dan selepas kempen? ALL BULLSHITTING. That's HOW VOTERS IN PERMATANG PAUH TAUGHT HIM A LESSON. AND NOW POST ELECTION REFLECTED HOW VOTERS THINK ABOUT THIS NEW GOVERNMENT. So call Unity Govt...STOP BULLSHITTING us.

  5. To be honest, I'd rather to have PN than seeing the country 2 biggest crooks working together. This is because I fear more corruption and dishonesty than religious Pas. The heavenly match between anwar+ zahid is going to destroy our future even further. Padang Serai folks had made their choice perfectly right. Looking forward to seeing more of this PN win in the state elections next year. Well done, PN!

Tioman lain. Teloq kena naik bot harga mmg mahal. Minyak pun sama. Kenderaan situ tak pakai byk minyak sbb pulau kecik aje.. kayuh gegheq pi mana pun sampai.

Mmg nak gi main jauh-jauh. Tp kena tlg Rapizi congak berapa rakyat bole jimat klo minyak Anwar kasi turun sampai RM0.02 - RM0.10 (Sgd 0.0062 - sgd 0.031).

  7. Padang Serai is PKR’s safe seat. A safe seat to PKR has switched side becoming their safe seat to PN with 16,000 plus majority. Wow what a turn around. What’s up with this PN? They routed everyone in their way to convincing victory. Bulldozing both BN and PH in their safe seats with such an ease. What even more baffling is the candidates that they put up who went on to become giant killers defeating heavyweights in their safe seats mostly are first timers.

Such an impact of Undi18 and auto registration to Malaysian political landscape. Less than we forget in 5 years time millions more would turn 18 and automatically, by law becoming registered voters. And guess whom these segment of voters would voted for? In near future we’re going to have a theologian as head of state.

    1. Trust me, most of these voters would rather vote for bn/ph but wouldn't do so because of .zahid.

Umno is probably going to die a slow death under zahid. Why would they choose bn over ph if both are chummy with Dap? Better ph coz at least they have a sizeable number of young leaders once anwar is out of the pic.

  9. The PN's win in PSerai was the sharpest n hardest blow to PH-BN. Anwar n Zahid think they can continue to deceive people the way they used to be. Aiyaaa... Just look at the 'awesome' PM using his extraordinary power to send legal notices of demanding this n that to his rivals instead of going down to deal with people's real issues. That tells he is more concern about his reputation than anything else. How SHIT he can be after inviting a belakang mari to sodomize us all. Keep up the effort, PN, the struggle is yet over.

ALL my life i believed you reap what you sow. These losers does not deserved the ministerial post. Talk about reformasi is just hot air. Pure and simple BS. Unity is ok but must be intigrity.

Why judge them only after 100/365 days while they have already proven deluding themselves right from the beginning? Tell you what the so-called perfect PM must do now to appease the wrath of the people, it is nothing but just confess and come clean about the Anwar-Zahid secret deal. Why keep denying by lying through his teeth or sending proxies to tell lies upon lies? Who needs a LIAR as our PM in the first place? Why would I have to imagine Cabinet being crowded with Pas MPs? And, why pass your judgement quicker than Pas gets to rule? Your suggestion is unfare and shows a strong bias against PN.

Klo nak distribute bg sorang sekeping tanah atau sebuah rumah murah pasti tak mampu kan? Takpe. Kita sama2 turut bantu jimat Wang Negara.

Mohon usaha supaya tiap famili bandar dberi sbuah reban ayam bole? Tak perlu besaq.. macam sangkar kucen 3 tingkat tak mahal pun. Mereka bole bela 2ekoq ayam jantan dan 8 ekoq betina di luaq atau dalam rumah.

Bela ayam sendiri tiap hari guarantee 6biji teloq.. tak payah MatSabu sampai nak import teloq. Hanya turut bantu Nga, ikhtiar tiap famili dberi 10 ekoq anak2 ayam.
