Di malam Raya

Guan Eng is so cute and clever

Nice title or not?

That's a special one to make pro-PH readers of this blog happy, okay.

Sometimes I wonder why there are so many of them reading this blog based on the comments that it received.

I think they out numbered the non pro-PH people by at least 10 to one.

And most of them think that I'm just a stupid bimbo.

Sometimes they can get quite rude about it too.

Well, guess I can't blame them though as I never claimed to be clever.

I never tried to impress, my English is quite bad and I just write as according to what I feel about what I observed.

Still, as pointed by someone in my last post, the pro-PH people who commented in this blog are all very clever.

So, I do wonder why they bothered to read my stupid postings.

Actually there are many other blogs, including anti-PH blogs which are really clever that they could visit.

You know, such as those with charts and graphs ones. All very factual some more.

Don't know lah.

But it's okay. I'm quite used to them already.

Even the nasty ones.

Some people are simply like that lah, I guess.

Anyway, I'm already on Raya holidays. So, I'm just relaxing except a bit of work that I needed to do.

Tomorrow, I'll be driving north to visit my uncle, which is my routine on Raya eve.

I'm going out very early in the morning. Hopefully the traffic will not be too bad.

I'm not having a new baju raya this year nor going to spend too much on food and other stuff for Raya.

Need to save money a bit.

After all, they said the country is drowning in debt what. Therefore it's so wrong to spend too much for Raya, right :)

Well, I know that many people seemed angry because I highlighted Guan Eng's not so good side.

So, this time I'm highlighting something positive about him lah,

Special Aidilfitri aid for 66,258 mosque officials, religious teachers

excerpts;

A special Aidilfitri aid of RM400 will be given to 66,258 mosque officials and religious teachers nationwide, with the cash deposited into their individual bank accounts, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said today.

Nice, right.

Errr....this one not considered dedak, right?

Surely not, Guan Eng from DAP, not Umno :)

Okay lah, enough of my rambling.

Need to sleep now. Got to get going early in the morning.

Good night.

About the RM1 trillion bullshit and borrowing from Japan

This story today doesn't make our Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng looks very good.

Moody's maintains Malaysia debt

burden at 50.8% of GDP

That's because.

Guan Eng confirms national debt

more than RM1 trillion

which is about 65 % of GDP.

i know, he did some spins about the figure after that but that's just sounded lame to me.

That's why the former finance minister,

Najib congratulates Guan Eng for

'spooking market' with RM1 trillion debt claim

excerpts;

Najib, who was previously also Finance Minister, said he was glad that Finance Minister Guan Eng chose to come clean on the official federal government debt by stating that the official federal government debt remains at RM686.8 billion or 50.8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
"(And) not 65 per cent of GDP or RM1 trillion as previously claimed.
“The level of 50.8 per cent is much lower than the 103.4 per cent reached during the first reign of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad," said Najib.
Najib said his administration had always complied with international public debt reporting guidelines as defined by the IMF and World Bank.
“Therefore, the figure of 50.8 per cent is a universally accepted measurement,” he added.
He said contingent obligations, such as guarantees, have never been included in the official measurement of government debt, not even during Dr Mahathir's previous reign

So, based on the report today, Moody's has confirmed that Najib was right and Guan Eng was wrong about the national debt.

It's not RM1 trillion as claimed but a reasonable RM686.8 billion or 50.8 per cent of GDP.

Let's compare that to my favourite foreign country Japan.

National debt of Japan

excerpts;

The Japanese public debt exceeded one quadrillion yen or about US$10.46 trillion in 2013, more than twice the country's annual gross domestic product.[1][2] By 2015, the figure rose to US$11.06 trillion. As the country adopted key economic initiatives, this figure start to dip so that by the end of December 2017, the debt stood at US$9.94 trillion.[3]
In August 2011, Moody's rating cuts Japan's long-term sovereign debt rating by one notch to Aa3 from Aa2 in line with the size of the country's deficit and borrowing level. The large budget deficits and government debt since the 2008-09 global recession and followed by earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 contributed to the ratings downgrade. In 2012 theOrganization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Yearbook editorial stated that Japan's debt "debt rose above 200% of GDP partly as a consequence of the tragic earthquake and the related reconstruction efforts."[4] Due to the ballooning debt, former Prime Minister Naoto Kan called the situation "urgent."[5] Indeed, by 2014, Japan had the world's highest debt per GDP.[6][7]

Well, compared to Japan's, I think Malaysia's debt is not so bad.

Maybe this is not such a good idea

Mahathir requests yen credit from Japan

That's because the Japanese public debt is up to 200% of their GDP while ours is only at 50.8 per cent of our GDP.

Maybe the economists among readers of this blog may want to comment....how?

Rice industry - an open letter to Salahuddin Ayub

Today I just want to highlight this open letter to Agriculture Minister Salahuddin Ayub about the future of Malaysia's rice industry under the new Pakatan Harapan government.

The letter is from:
Haji Marzukhi Othman.
Mantan Pengurusi Persatuan Pengilang Beras Melayu Malaysia.
Pengarah Urusan Kumpulan Dibuk Sdn Bhd.

Assalamualaikum. Salam sejahtera.

Perkara asas yang telah ditetapkan dalam syarat pengswastaan LPN oleh kerajaan kepada Bernas adalah seperti berikut;

Sekian Terima Kasih.

Dr Mahathir's worst idea so far

I have always been supportive of the much maligned Proton.

You can check that out in this blog's archive.

But I have to disagree when

Mahathir speaks of new national car

With all due respect to the handsome old man, I have to say that's just not right.

In fact I have to say that's his worst idea since becoming the PM for the second time.

I have to go along with this call,

Forget national car, focus on public transport

I think even MoF Guan Eng would agree.

After all he's the one who keep saying we are drowning in debt.

He may even be the one who wanted the crucial MRT3 project to be shelved because of that.

But of course he wouldn't dare to object to anything Dr Mahathir says these days.

That's just the way DAP is now.

They need to keep the peace so that PH could survive.

They can't risk antagonising the millions who voted PH because of Dr Mahathir.

Anyway, I don't really believe Dr Mahathir will continue with such a national car project after the general opposition against it among Malaysians today.

He probably just floated the idea to see how the public would respond and it turned into the first serious objection against him after GE14.

The Proton experience has not been very good for too many people.

Well, maybe he'll do it later.

Whatever it is, I hope he'll only do so after we have fixed our public transport system first.

After MRT3 at least.

We need a proper public transport system if we are to be a fully developed nation by 2020 or now they said 2025.

Dr Mahathir is now in Japan. Surely he knows how important is the rail public transport system in that country. I can't imagine how Tokyo would be without it.

Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah taking a ride on the MRT

Dr Mahathir's best decision so far

A Japanese friend of mine sent me a WhatsApp message last night telling me that he just met a close aide of Dr Mahathir, who is also my friend in Tokyo.

From the tone of his message, I think he was very happy.

I sort of introduced them at the height of Dr Mahathir-Najib fight in 2015.

I was quite happy too that they met again.

My Japanese friend represents a major company interested to invest in Malaysia.

I hope everything went well with their meeting and we will have that potential investor coming here soon.

Dr Mahathir is currently in Japan, the first country he's visiting since becoming PM again.

I believe many good things will come out of it.

Regular readers of this blog should know that I'm quite pro-Japan.

I prefer that country more than others.

So, that's why for me the best decision of Dr Mahathir since he became PM again is,

To reignite Look East Policy

It's refreshing for me that we are shifting a bit from the current trend of giving too much emphasis on China as source of investments and such.

I was never really comfortable with us being too dependent on China.

After all, I was unhappy with all those Chinese investments along the coast of Tebrau Straits long before Dr Mahathir pose for this picture, which I think helped PH a lot to defeat BN in my home state Johor

You all may check the archive of this blog if you don't believe me.

This is one of my most read post about it back on Sept 3, 2014,

Meanwhile in Johor...the song remains the same

See, that's even before the Dr Mahathir-Najib fight.

We never have that sorts of trouble with the Japanese investors.

And they have been coming here opening up factories and such to help boost our economy since the 1980s when the jobs they created were meant for us Malaysians instead of Bangladeshis, Indonesians, Nepalese etc.

If I'm  not mistaken, Japan is still our number one source of FDI today.

I sure hope we are going to get more of such investments with this new round of Look East policy.

Maybe more in high tech stuff instead of the labour intensive ones this time.

I'm also much more comfortable with Malaysia being close to Japan because that country had been doing much in helping us in things such as research and development.

They used to give us quite a lot of development grants and even sent their experts to help out in improving our technical know how.

I also believe that we can still learn a lot more from them, especially in improving our work ethics and culture.

Well, writing this post makes me miss Japan again.

The last time I was there was in autumn 2015.

Just a few days tour of the beautiful Kansai region.

I visited this temple in Kyoto the last time I was In Japan
I've been writing about visiting Japan again since then but never did so.

There's always something coming up that I had to cancel my travelling plan.

It will soon be autumn again over there.

Maybe this time.

Maybe I'll go disturb my friend in Tokyo as I always promised him.

See lah how.

Dr M vs Anwar, let's blame Singapore too

Looks like Anwar has to wait for quite a while more because

Mahathir's two year timeframe not set in stone

excerpts;

“I could be done with my work earlier or it could take longer. My priority is to return the nation’s wealth and improve the nation’s economy so we become stronger. If possible my short-term intention is to address all our problems.
“Money is not a priority if I became successful. What is important is the result of my work. This is what I work hard for,” Dr Mahathir reportedly said.
I think it's going to take Dr Mahathir longer than sooner because he said he wants "to address all our problems".

That could even take forever.

At the way things are going, I really doubt Anwar will ever becomes PM.

But then again, the guy already told his PKR people to support Dr Mahathir to fix the country which was supposedly almost destroyed by BN.

Once upon a time, Anwar and Dr Mahathir in their Umno attire.
At least, that's what he said openly.

So, there shouldn't really be any worry.

That's what the PH people said lah.

Yes, Anwar probably doesn't even mind not being made PM at all.

He is sincere and has no such ambition.

Okay, I'll try to believe all that.

Sure.

All these talks about the big Anwar vs Mahathir fight in the near future were just the work of Umno cybertroopers.

Yup, the dastardly Umno....fine, I'll try to believe that one too.

Still, there are stories such as this one which were definitely not cooked up by Umno,

Azmin's rise to power under Dr M worrying Anwar's men

excerpts;

Citing anonymous sources, the daily said Azmin’s Cabinet position could be seen as a power play by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to consolidate his grip on Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Azmin’s appointment is also worrisome to Anwar’s loyalists who see the move could give the Gombak MP considerable power to curb Anwar’s influence within PH.
It said Azmin’s new portfolio will oversee the nation’s biggest companies, including state oil giant Petronas, sovereign wealth fund Khazanah, and savings manager Perbadanan Nasional Berhad, which are collectively worth more than RM1 trillion.
The portfolio also includes the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), Tabung Haji and the other major units and department in charge of aiding Malay entrepreneurs.
“The scope is so wide that earlier plans to place the International Trade and Industry Ministry under the ministry will likely be ditched,” said the source familiar with the restructuring.
I don't think that daily, which is the Singapore's Straits Times is part of the Umno's cybertroopers network.

For this one, I think the PH people will have to deal with those pesky Singaporeans themselves.

Maybe they could tell the people that the Singaporeans are trying to destabilise our country by sowing animosity between Malaysian leaders.

Yes, let's blame the Singaporeans....like we used to back then.

Singaporean boogeyman, the Israel of the east.

Well, DAP wouldn't like this very much, but they simply have no choice but to play along.

Despite them being all powerful now, I don't think DAP dares to say no to an anti-Singapore move.

They will go along with it.

They will be willing to do anything to keep the fragile PH unity from breaking apart.

That's what they have been doing since accepting Dr Mahathir and his team into PH.

They have been following everything that the handsome old man told them to do.

I think they may even ask Dr Mahathir to be their supremo in case Kit Siang kicks the bucket tomorrow.

They are now that at awe of the man whom they used to hate so much all those years.

So, what the heck with just a little bit of Singapore bashing, eh.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, it's going to be a bit troublesome when I hang around with my Singaporean cousins.

They used to tease me for being a silly Malaysian. Always blaming Singapore for Malaysia's screwed ups.

Never mind. Maybe it's not going to be so bad this time as we are much older now.

Anyway, I suddenly miss Singapore.

Really.

Among others....I miss walking with my mother along the Changi beach.

My mom used to take me to this playground at the beach
