Meanwhile in Johor...the song remains the same

Honestly, I had intended to lay my trust on PM DS Najib Razak to do the necessary to stop the excesses in Johor.

Thus my long break from writing about my home state.

However, a friend from JB sent me this picture just now, which made my blood boiled;

I simply have to write about it.

Okay, these billboards are located near the entrance of the Causeway into JB from Singapore.

The one on the right welcomes people from Singapore into the country while the one on the left advertises the Tanjong Puteri property development in Stulang.

Sorry that the picture is a bit small, but if you can zoom in at the Tanjong Puteri billboard, you may see that it advertises the property as being FREE HOLD. There were also phone numbers of the property agents in Malaysia and Singapore.

The whole thing is akin to welcoming Singaporeans and telling them that they can buy property in JB which they can own forever. Selagi ada bulan dan bintang kinda deal.

Aren't we Malaysians very nice people?

Come! Come! Buy my country! You can have it forever! We don't mind one!

Something like that.

By the way, this Tanjong Puteri property project is being developed by a mainland Chinese company on the land where the old CIQ of the Causeway was located.

How the hell the company acquired that piece of land and had it turned into a FREE HOLD land is anybody's guess.

Don't ask me, okay.

Ask Johor MB DS Mohd Khaled Nordin. He's the main man of Johor now, so, he should know.

Well, never mind. Actually, the whole stretch of coastal land from Stulang, all the way to the Second Link is turning the same way - FREE HOLD land, sold or about to be sold to foreign interests.

My friend who sent me the picture wrote the following in his Wassap message to me:  (Note: You all who don't understand Malay, do go and get a Kamus Dewan if you want to understand him, okay.)

R&F maksudnya Rich and Famous.

Okay, you all got the picture?

That's how JB is these days.

Anyway, in case any of you readers have direct access to Johor MB Khaled Nordin, please ask him whether the followings are true:

1.The Chinese developer of Country Garden, which is another coastal property project along the Tebrau Straits had paid almost RM900 per sq ft for the FREE HOLD land.
2. The State government however only received less than RM50 per sq ft from that amount.
3. The Khaled administration had later asked the developer an additional 30 sen per sq ft for a fishermen fund in an effort to showcase how the project is being benefitted by the poor fishermen in the area whose source of livelihood has been negatively affected by all the reclamation works and pollution associated with the project.

Yes, the State government received less than RM50 per sq ft while the fishermen received 30 sen per sq ft.

Now, what happened to the rest of the almost RM900 per sq ft paid by the Chinese developer?

Ada toyol sudah curi ka?

Go and ask Khaled Nordin what happened to the rest of the money.

Again, he should know all the answers.

If you don't know how Khaled looks like, this is him:

Khaled, that's the people being screwed. You, as the MB should be protecting them, okay.

Maka perlu lah rakyat Johor menunjukkan perasaan.

Tuanku just want more developement and see Johore prosper and be on par like Selangor,Penang and KL.

Sour grapes? Well, we prefer to be labelled as sour grapes rather than being someone who sold huge chunk of land to foreigners.

You think development can only be achieved by selling land only to let foreigners sell the developed land to other foreigners? Ini bukan zaman kuno tok kadok lah bangang. Bodoh piang ke apa kamu ni? Tak belajar sejarah? You look at Thailand, none of the wise Thai kings ceded even an inch of Thai territories to foreign powers, and yet the Kingdom is also prosperous up to this day. It's the only country in Southeast Asia which was never colonised by foreign powers. Occasional political hiccups to biasalah tp Thailand is still a prosperous and the King is very much revered by the people.

If what you wrote is to be seriously considered, you might as well campaign for the whole state of Johor to be auctioned off to the highest foreign bidders. The MB and Johor State Government come as free gifts. Tak perlu ikut Langkah Kajang as holding elections will unnecessarily burden the national tax-payers, unlike in Johor where many pay taxes to singapore.

Development lah sangat. Lain kali nak tulis tu guna otak!!

For the fact is, anyone can write or allege literally anything 'under the sun'. Surely, you mean well and noble in an effort to (impartially?) share and open our eyes on whatever issues.

    2. To Anon 12.39,

Well, don't you think that it is also a responsibility of a responsible state government led by a responsible MB to address any legitimate concerns of the people? To effectively stop the wild gossips? There are already cases involving foreign investors fleeing Johor including rich Arabs kan?

If the Johor MB can go to great lengths to explain, albeit rather poorly and hardly convincing about the new legislation involving properties in Johor few months back, obviously the State Government and its agencies will have no qualms in addressing a lot of other suspicions by providing sufficiently convincing explanations to the public. It was so funny when the MB said there was nothing wrong with that particular legislation, then resorted to make amendments to it. Kak Annie is not the only one who is worried, there are many others. Even Tun Dr. M had expressed his concerns about what's happening in Johor publicly on several occasions.

And how about Singapore's concerns regarding the reclamation works in Johor? Any information about the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) involving the projects? Why those responsible are so elegantly silent? Singapore had expressed this publicly too and you expect them to furnish evidence about what's happening within Johor's borders? I think it'll come crashing if you let the Singaporeans to produce their evidence just like how they produced the evidence where a stupid Johor civil servant in the past who replied a letter, which was later used by the Republic to justify their legal claims on Pulau Batu Putih at ICJ proceedings. Then, ada ura-ura baru pula nak reclaim Pulau Batu Putih from Singapore. Seriously? The whole Malaysian legal team pun kalah kat ICJ, you expect the current MB can do any better?

Please stop picking on my Kak Annie. She's just expressing her concerns as a Johorean.

    2. Why pick on the MB (the current one)?

Have the previous Johor MBs done a better job than the present incumbent?

I seem to recall a "Floating City" project in JB that was much ballyhooed during the administration of a former MB. Concrete piles were sunk into the Strait of Johor. What happened to that project?

And who was the Johor MB when the state government had the brilliant idea of covering the odoriferous Sungai Segget? Sort of like if you can't see it, you can't smell it.

There are many more examples such as the rundown low-cost flats (now demolished, thankfully) in Lumba Kuda, the haphazard attempts at beautifying Lido Beach, the awful public transport system in JB and greater JB (JB old timers will remember the Alec Bus and South Johore Bus companies, the renaming of the Johor English College etc.

Let's not even mention the hollowing out of downtown JB as middle-income JB residents moved enmasse to the suburbs to what it is now - a place for Singaporeans to stop over on their way north or as a source of cheap labour for the factories, offices and service industries in Singapore.

You said "remains the same". That's meaningful to me.

The problem did not start from khaled. It actually started from ghani othman.

Most of the projects, reclamation, land etc were given during his time. Mostly to one old cina bald with eyebags. You know who, of course.

Notably he's the one who was pivotal to bring in all those China companies, especially those you talked about and hated.

Where he can, he would bring Mr. F to china to socialize and strengthen the relationship further.

Recently he went to Singapore too with the man of your hope Encik Satu Malaysia and wife , to a hospital to visit someone we not too familiar.

God forbid, but this guy will be the new wong ah fook plus yap ah loy when sepupu becomes top ayahanda.

And then your good buddy ghani othman will be resurrected again from grave.

Not resurrected la, exhumed. Like those graves of Pengerang.

Recently the blue eye boy of kprj even shouted so that the DYMM don't sign some enactment, slapping khaled face even though he's his immediate boss.

I bought a kamus the other day, and found that the word 'KHIANAT' no longer exist in kamus.

No wonder ramai dah tak tahu perbuatan khianat lagi.

What's so wrong to sell land to Chinaman?

Until today it's reported that China had invested 160 billion dollars in trade with malaysia. When president XI jinping came last november he said in five years china will invest a total of 500 billion usd in SEA. How much of that is in johor ?

Compare to malaysian chinese who transmitted all money to overseas, the mainland china men are actually helping the country to grow.

There was one very influential cina Dato, closed to Almarhum. He got land, sand, iron ore, balak etc from johor. Now all his children all singapore citizens although they still maintain listed company and development and hotel in JB.

Tangkak along who has over a hundred million in wealth who's now also citizen of singapore?

All those Dato dato, nenek nenek who had transferred thousands of millions to melbourne, Sidney, london, Manchester, etc and live there for good?

There's one chinese christian big man of a big developer in kulai, whose entire family now lives comfortably in Perth, and he still staying behind trying to sell off as much as he can before he, too, disappear in Australia?

    1. What is your intention in putting out such a comment? To cower the locals by talking about the "might" of China? Using vulgar and rude words to the Malays and irritating them some more by clapping your hands on their losing their "tanah air"?

No, China is not that mighty. With the largest population in the world and about the largest country on earth, they are only the 2nd largest economy in the world. They have been conquered and ruled by foreigners for hundreds of years in their history (Hong Kong was returned by the British only in 1990) and bullied by the smaller-nation and smaller-population Japanese who now are spending unprecedented amounts of money on defence to counter the saber-rattling by the Chinese in the East China Sea.

Don't do that, man. Bad talk attracts the same, do you understand? That's why there's the Sedition Act in this country which the DPM has just said the Government has not decided to abolish, amend or replace. Because of people like you.

    2. Oops, that's going way too far.

China isn't invincible. Far from it. The US can "bungkus" it any time it wants to.

Do you think that China would try to throw it's weight around if Reagan was the US President?

Malaysia should stand up and count who it's friends are.

  34. The articles - written elsewhere - about the Sultan and Johore Housing Board being put up to the Johore State Assembly appalled me.

Shattered my hope of seeing anything good from the current MB for the general public of Johor.

And can't expect anything from Najib. On Johore or on many other cases, especially the retention of the Sedition Act. I feel sad for his country and for the Malays. There should be another Tun Dr Mahathir now to save the situation.
