Okay, the hottest political story at the moment is the Selangor leadership crisis.
Pakatan, I believe is on the brink of breaking up because of it.
There is no way now for DS Anwar Ibrahim, who engineered the Kajang Move to instal himself or as it turned out later his wife as Selangor menteri besar (MB), can pretend he doesn't mind his wife being belittled by Pas president DS Abdul Hadi Awang.
You can read it at this today's NST front page exclusive report here:
Hadi: Wan Azizah is not fit to be MB
Excerpts:
“There is a series of criteria needed for one to be eligible as a leader.
“For example, among the skills (Dr Wan Azizah) must possess is the ability to face (detractors) and answer hard questions in Parliament and the state assembly.
“If you can’t hold your own in a debate with opposition members in the (Selangor) state assembly, how can you lead (in a vastly larger role)?” Hadi said in Marang here, when asked by a Pas member during a dialogue as to why the party would not accept Dr Wan Azizah as the menteri besar.
Hadi, who was once a Terengganu MB, however did not list down the exact criteria of a good MB.
I am not very familiar with Hadi's performance as an MB which was between 1999 and 2004, as I was still a bit young and hardly been to Terengganu at that time.
BN people said he was a bad MB while Pas people said he was good.
I believe PKR and DAP people used to say Hadi was a good MB too, but now, after he turned his back on them over the Selangor crisis, they are probably saying that not only was he a horrible MB, but he is also an evil double crossing horny bastard too.
Yes, just yesterday an elderly PKR supporter told me that he believed that Hadi is taking bribe from Umno as he has four wives.
Hmmm...if I was not mistaken, Hadi only has two wives.
Terrible la the way these Pakatan people come up with such stories when they don't like certain people.
Just look at the way they smeared the name of TS Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, whom they once touted as the cleanest and most efficient MB ever.
Anyway, what does it takes to be a good MB?
Well, I know one good MB.
Let me list down ten good things that I knew about him while he was in office.
1. He doesn't talk much but works hard. He is also incorruptible.
2. When he became MB, the first thing that he did was to disperse development efforts to balance between those in the urban and rural areas, taking huge risks by giving priority to low-key but crucial projects such as building better roads in the villages throughout the State.
3. He didn't hoard the State government's money in order for its budget to look good but instead spend it on development projects for the people.
4. He never neglect the needs of the minority communities, providing them with assistance and financial allocations for things close to their heart such as vernacular schools, NGO activities, temple upkeeps etc.
5. At the same time he undertook serious efforts to uplift the lots of the majority bumiputera by creating for them opportunities, especially in education, trade and commerce.
6. Being very passionate about his Malay roots, he tried to inculcate a sense of self belonging and pride among his fellow Malays in the State through several programs so that they could be proud of their culture and attain a high level of self confidence.
7. He initiated quite a number of initiatives such as a "membudayakan AlQuran" program in the work place to promote the moderate and progressive Islamic practices which the State is famous for.
8. He has a lot of ideas for the betterment of the State. One of his good ideas which he presented to the Federal government had turned into a major development initiative designed to propel the growth of not just the State but the entire country.
9. As the MB, he gave good advises to the Sultan of the State, instead of accepting bad advises from all sides.
10. He served his State well as its MB for almost two decades and when he was told that he had to go, he walked to the sunset without kicking up a fuss despite being badly treated during his final days in office.
Okay, to me, that was one good MB.
Who is he?
You all can guess for yourself.
Hadi dlm proses menjalani hukuman Allah s.w.t atas kerosakan yg dilakukan di zaman mudanya dgn kafir mengkafir, sembahyang 2 imam dan caci mencaci sesama rakan seagama. Tuan Ibrahim pun baru2 ni baru sedar siapa sebenarnya rakan PAS yg mencampuri urusan dalaman PAS, jadi padan muka dan jilat ludah sendiri
DeleteAnnie, I'm impressed by your criteria of a good public administrator.
ReplyDelete"Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right . . . Whatever you are, be a good one."
-- Abraham Lincoln
Thanks, but that's not my criteria of a good MB. That's a real person who used to be a good MB. He is now living a quiet life in a semi-D house in KL with his wife.
Delete" . . Whatever you are, be a good one." - Abraham Lincoln
DeleteThe crooks and the corrupts will have a field day. Maybe not many of them during Lincoln's time. But like hell they are all over the place in this country now.
I'm sure President Lincoln meant that one should do well and be honorable in one's trade or occupation. The last thing he would want is for a crook to be good at being crooked man!
DeleteErr, Ghani Othman??
ReplyDeleteaah ghani lah tuh. Ghani pun x boleh pakai
DeleteApasal "Ghani pun x boleh pakai"?. Jangan jadi Pakatoon le, kena kasi sikit justifikasi.
DeleteJohor, muhyiddin yasin
ReplyDeleteI got no sympathy for the devil.
ReplyDeleteSdri Annie, I personally know the guy academically for more than ten years...definitely a good guy!
ReplyDeleteI was in Terengganu at the time, supporting neither blue nor green. Everyone was excited with the new government, expecting positive changes. After a while, no progress, reason or excuse being this was all caused by the old government. 3 years on, same excuse. Come election, the people decided. They had a government publication at the time, forgot what it was called. I remember one issue had Hadi on 2 full pages side by side wearing Al Azhar robes, stating the robe can only be worn by someone with this and this qualification. I don't think the people of Terengganu voted PAS to get a male model. There were many wrong things that Hadi could not control, I will not go in depth. In short, he should have stayed in the religion stream. He sucked as an MB
ReplyDeleteI was there too ... mengajar di asrama anak yatim Perkaya. My Trengganu friends become gila after Hadi got elected sebab dia dah janji rakyat akan dapat lot tanah. So many rushed into the forest for several days untuk gariskan lot tanh meraka. All came to nothing in the end. The sampah collection problem lasted for years.
DeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeleteYou missed one more criteria of a good MB.
A good MB does not need to set up a pseudo-police unit in his state and have them dressed up in gayish-colour uniforms.
Hakhak
DeleteThat is not a MB lah... but a Pendatang CM. A moronic one.
DeleteBlackmoon.
Lots of rationale feedback here unlike many madcappers on other sites....u seem to hv a good handle abt who we can n shld not trust.
ReplyDeleteA good MB also does not need use the word racist all the time and always blame everything on UMNO. He also does not need to sue people all the time.
ReplyDeleteand that he shouldn't behave like (always) he was still an opposition - shouting his top at every ceramah. He also does not need challenging the Ketua Polis all the times his pet project/org is called illegal.

DeleteSutak biasa itu macam lea aa , manyak susak mau ubah loo oo , suloh olang ubah ,sendili tatak bolih ubah maa aa.
Tapi Wa selalu ingat , jahat punya olang saja mau lawan police lea aa.
The most important quality of an MB is the ability uplift his state's economic performance.
ReplyDeleteSome states have pre-existing advantages eg Selangor and Penang. Johor has the advantage of being close to Singapore, but it was only through Iskandar that increased economic integration is accelerated.
Management ability is VERY IMPORTANT.Just being honest, people-minded, etc, is not enough. A good example was Hugo Chavez who provided dirt cheap petrol and diesel to his people because Venezuela was a major oil exporter. He practically ran his country to the ground.
In Malaysia, there are many good examples, the most glaring of which are: Bank Bumi vs CIMB and MAS vs Air Asia.
Dear Annie,
ReplyDeleteIf it's ghani Othman you're talking about, then the most successful and best ideas of this great man must include KPRJ, tebrau teguh, selling of KFC, and the achievement of establishing a cina Strongman with eyebags and bald who drank a lot.
Heard that cina pek also brought his JCS boys touring with many perks .
Two decades in office and people close to his heart !?? Wah lau ~ bulu kemaluan pun mahu naik.
Budak-budak Khaled Nordin memang cerdik pandai dan tinggi budi bahasa.
DeleteAnnie 10:03,
DeleteHarap diorang faham kena sindir. Dah ngikut cara buydak budak DAP.
When I read the list you wrote down on good MB, i think of Mukhriz out of sudden.. hahaha.. hope he can lead Kedah to prosper. One simple example is Kedah Football Team. He revamped the team's name, logo, squad, management and now Lang Merah is in quarter final of Piala Malaysia & promoted to Super League next season.. not including the state investments which is among the highest for 2014 & proposal of its own 2nd international airport (after Langkawi). I wish he can become as good as his father and Ghani.. in term of management wise of course
ReplyDeleteRunning a close second, the next most important quality of an MB, is the ability to constantly bear in mind that he is the head of a team, but first amongst equals. In short, he must respect his exco, and that their ideas get adopted when they are of sufficient merit.
ReplyDeleteI have great respect for Khalid the Economy Manager. But unfortunately, he failed dismally when it came to the second most important quality.
I can't think of any great CM or MB since Merdeka. About the only one who come very close of a good MB is the former CM of Sarawak Tun Pattinggi Taib.
ReplyDeleteHe's damn good in fighting off his opponents.
I have always felt that Tan Sri Rahim is the best CM/MB since Merdeka (he was Melaka CM). He's a visionary and came up good blue print plans to modernize Melaka.
DeleteAlas, he couldn't keep his hands off 'women with dahi licin' that brought him down as a CM and a politician. He stupidly let Anwar destroyed his political career.
What were you doing in a hotel room in PJ?
ReplyDeleteNone of yr business
DeleteSalam, I was on slugging mood with a PAS Erdogs oneof ArtHarun's visitors. when I had an urge to visit you. More concerned with how you are. thanks for the vote of confidence. Think MBKI `no hard feelings' he has trained his cross-hairs on other challenging sights.
ReplyDeleteUstHadi had mmade the horse-trading short. Now for `Sultan's Move!' Not at all sad to leave the State with `the Best MB Selangor ever had' bee in the bonnet. A permata will shine wherever he lands. Politics NOt for `staight talkers!'
Good when Selangor fall to UMNO next GE! Teach DAPs and Erdogs a bitter lesson.
Take care, Wassalam.
Saudara, mu guna computer translator rasanya kan? hahahahaha
DeleteMu takdok lain nok ghoyak ke? Doh tak leh nok pertahankan Pakatang hilang Selangor tak lamo lagi dok? Mace Shakirin ghoyak tuh.
DeleteAmbo sokong apo Shakirin ghoyak.
Dear Annie,
ReplyDeleteI think no harm to reveal who that good MB is. Even if the MB knows you. Coz you are not using your real or full name.
It'll be good to reveal him. For inspiration to others or as a yardstick for politicos - especially the young ones - to emulate. If true he lives only in a semi-d house in KL now, wow, that one criterion alone is a huge indicator of his goodness of character.
I don't know of any like that. I badly need to know. I want to be able to tell the corrupt others that they should have followed that MB way.
Please, Annie, let us know who he is. Or at least give some hints. Txs.
He is the first Umno leader fielded in a Chinese majority constituency by the BN leadership in an attempt to break the Chinese tsunami during GE13 and prevent the worsening of racial polarization in the country. It was a mission impossible and he lost. That was his last and ultimate sacrifice as an MB and Umno leader.
DeleteTxs awfully, Annie.
DeleteFrom the business angle, you are "customer-oriented". From the political angle, you layan your constituents. From the blogging angle, you respond to your blog participants' requests.
That's why you now have 1.3 million pageviews from March 2013 - just 1 1/2 years. So many other blogs of similar quality managed to get that only in 4-5 years.
Well done, sis. You might do well even in politics. Ever thought of venturing into that field?
But sorry to say, I don't like most leading politicians. Very few have principles. Many don't have scruples.
PS:
DeleteI used to respect Tengku Razaleigh. Re Najib's preoccupation with a developed nation status, TR said long ago (when he was Minister of Finance?) that of course under normal conditions the economic growth of a country can be accelerated, but in Malaysia'c context, the Chinese will get richer, the Malays poorer and the objective of economically re-structuring society under the NEP will be brought to nought.
But now that his hopes of becoming PM is gone and at times sounding sour grapes, he sings different tunes.
Btw, I wonder if Najib really bothers about his pa's (Tun A Razak's) often reverberating words - economically "re-structuring society" in this country.
I just stumble into you site from The Mole. Interesting views by you and comments by readers. And you allow Anon comments. But you moderate the comments. Which is understandable considering the many Red Bean types these days.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to spend some time here after this. Only hope it'll not take too long for you to moderate comments. I don't have high self-esteem and keep wondering if my comments are good enough to be published. And tend to run away if I start thinking they aren't.
Best wishes.
Thanks for visiting.
DeleteHave you gotten fed up with Malaysian Insider which does not publish comments against Pakatoons or any subjects that online news portal support?
DeleteVery much so, my friend.
DeleteAnd they, like other Opposition blogs, are not "news portals". They are neither news nor portals. They are just blogs, often twisting, spinning and slanting information which they try to put out as news.
They use crude, caustic language, often seditious, like Malaysia Kini has been charged under the Sedition Act.
And that MB got shafted by his own party too.
ReplyDeleteMat Said...ex MB Trengganu..i have exactly the same feelings about him....true leader. Confirmed... It's him.
ReplyDeleteMat Said sgt mementingkan pelajaran anak trengganu...trengganu sentiasa top in malaysia dlm SPM. Najib bangang betul buang dia
ReplyDeleteMat Said lost BN's 2/3 majority in Tganu during GE13 and worst still, he almost lost Tganu to Pakatan.
DeleteThat was his blunder as the BN Chief of Tganu, and he deserved the sack.
He was appointed as MB Tganu not only to help local kids to excel in their exams. His role as an MB was much bigger than that.
It's that too difficult for you to understand?
Well annie ex mb ghani, he is a good guy..definitely..but strengthening umno in the state during his tenure?!!did he do that?!!!
ReplyDeleten the last general election, 83 per cent of Johorean Malay voters cast their vote for BN. Johor BN took the full brunt of the Chinese tsunami with over 90 per cent of the Chinese voters going for Pakatan (read DAP). Bear in mind that Chinese made up almost 40 per cent of Johoreans. If the Malays support for Umno in Johor was lesser by 10 per cent, the State would had fall. Four of the five parliament seats lost were Chinese majority areas : Gelang Patah, Kluang, Kulai, Bakri, The mixed Batu Pahat would not had been lost if the BN leadership had listened to Johor Umno liaison committee not to field that boorish Puad Zarkashi. Of the 18 state seats lost, 14 are Chinese majority. The other mixed and Malay state seats were lost due to localized factionalism issues. I believe Umno didn't do that badly in Johor in GE13.
DeleteSelangor MB crisis: PAS makes another turn
ReplyDeleteKUALA LUMPUR: In another twist, PAS now says it will reject the post of Mentri Besar even if the Sultan of Selangor appoints one of the party's candidates nominated by its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Deputy president Mohamad Sabu told a press conference after chairing the party's central committee meeting on Sunday that the committee was sticking to its original decision of not vying for the Mentri Besar's post.
ps. Who is running PAS? They are clearly two camps.
Don't believe what Mat Sabu says. He's Anwarista. He is sore because Hadi puts in 3 names to the Palace. And Hadi explained it well in Trengganu that the PAS Constitution allows him to do that and the party Deputy President and Vice President have to respect that.
DeleteThen the PAS Syura Council came out supporting what Hadi said.
How can any one believe this crazy fella who said communist terrorist Mat Indera, who attacked and burnt the Bukit Kepong (Muar) Police Station during the communist insurgency period, was a national hero. He is often called the Clown.
..........and this Mat Sabu even accused Anwar of being a homosexual in the Parliament back in the 90's. He called Anwar Al-Juburi, Now he is in cohort with Anwar. 'tepuk dahi'.
DeleteAnd you believe this kind of character?
The Sabo clown couldn't even get through his UiTM food technology course cos he was kicked out for involving hinself in political demonstrations.
DeleteBut the public and party grassroots members know Khalid and Sallahuddin and even Mat Sabu are ‘stooges of Anwar’ who wanted to control PAS instead of the veteran fundamentalists . Anwar wants a platform in case his party PKR does split up becos of its multi-racial mix and the heavy racial politicking. So Anwar planted his men in PAS, and modifies PAS movements to suit his liberal stand such that he still gets the support of his foreign masters. PKR is based on "Reformasi", in the same direction of Ambiga's "Bersih" campaign, but since it is Anwar’s dying ambition to become Prime Minister he cannot survive if his party PKR is in trouble internally.
Mat Sabu...r*t is working for DAP's PBAPP, (Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang), since Kedah was under PAS. We can understand then, because Penang's source of water are from rivers and streams flowing dowstream from Kedah. He was MP then, too. But after losing GE13's Pendang seat, people are wondering why Guan Eng is still paying him as Directors fee in PBAPP when Kedah is now under BN. He does not serve any purpose what-so-ever for the people of Penang. If he is Penang's Mufti, Ustaz/Ulamak or holding any other Islamic religious obligation, bestowed upon him as PAS Vice President, we can understand.
DeleteTherefore, what Mat Sabu is doing in PBAPP, remains a mystery to the tax-paying Rakyat, especially in Penang.
It just don't bode well with that C.A.T tagline, DAP is promoting. He has nothing to his credit, except his loud filthy mouth which attract a large crowd during ceramahs.
Wonder if Guan Eng would still be 'paying' Mat Sabu if PAS quits Pakatan.
DAP's choice of Wan Azizah as Selangor MB is also against C.A.T spirit. Everybody knows that Wan Azizah has NO Credibility, Accountability or Transparancy, what-so-ever.
A good MB is something like Khalid Nordin , always smiles and showing his teeth , at all time he will smiles ,even if the whole Johore gone ,taking over by the Chinese and China.
ReplyDeleteLook at his photo in Annie's other post - even his smile is contorted. Maybe taken after meeting the Sultan. About investments in Iskandar and other housing projects.
DeleteSenyum itu sedekah
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. It must be MICHAEL BOLTON you talking about.Nice MB.
ReplyDeleteDear Annie.
ReplyDeleteI bet my life on this.
Without reading through the 57 comments, Ghani Othman was one Good ex-MB of Johor.
The good die young, politically?
DeleteToo many crooks these days, eh?
After much discussion on the qualities of a good MB, the next question is what are the criteria used by the party President/PM for the selection of the MB?
ReplyDeletePKR and DAP of course just select a puppet and they don't discuss that among themselves or with others, otherwise censured, warning letters or dismissals.
UMNO of course is democratic and 161 Divisions have even spoken out for the retention of the Sedition Act, not quite what the President was thinking about. So, we can discuss how UMNO MBs are selected without fear of recriminations.
Here are some of the criteria that I think have been used in the past:
1. The most popular in the state as perceived by the party President, based on divisional election results, giving regard to the varying sizes of the divisions, maybe some kind of ratio used if necessary to justify any one being thought of
2. The one likely to bring in the most votes in the state for the party President in the event of the post being contested
3. Loyalty beyond any doubt. The one who will rally around everybody if a vote of no confidence is considered against the party President, like happened to Pak Lah
4. Full understanding, sympathy and support of the Federal Government's agenda. The one who will get the party President/PM's policies carried out fully in the state - bringing in more mainland Chinese or Singaporeans to buy properties and/or settle down in the state, in the name of making Malaysia a developed nation, talked about in Singapore and being seen by visitors to Singapore
5. Acceptability to the palace. Ability to solve problems without bothering KL
6. Annie's 10 points above my be looked at but considered only as optional or incidental
Loyalty is very important. And it helps if you are a cousin. Others talk of wanting Sedition Act be retained - 161 out of a total 191 UMNO Divisions. You can talk about what your cousin wants.
DeleteDon't say that the cousin being made Defence Minister is nepotism - he actually got the 2nd highest votes among the Vice Presidential candidates during the UMNO party elections. It was on merit.
DeleteBefore that he was the Home Minister, But not taking action on so many things because wanting to be in line with what the cousin PM wants - be soft and tender on the anti-nationals, removed the ISA, EO, RRA and the like.
But there was hue and cry among the public for the non or delayed action. So he was transferred to Defence and Ahmad Zahid became Home Minister, i/c of the Police etc. And he took drastic action against the criminals and anti-nationals. The public roared with approval.
So, speaking up does produce results. So, let's speak up, guys.
Politics is a game of making people want you, your thoughts, ideas and programmes. When you decide that all people want developed nation status by 2020, you disregard people's thoughts and wants. Theirs don't count, just yours do.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter if Johore becomes a Wilayah Tian Ann Men by 2020.
