The mantra and how HSR was cancelled

Based on comments I received in this blog, I think most of us will revert  to the mantra "Najib stole the people's money, so that's why things are like this now", whenever we can't articulate ourselves properly on any arising issue.

It's probably the same mantra to be used by the government whenever it wants to do something, such as collecting money from the people to strengthen the economy, or can't do something, such as fulfilling its election promises.

I'm quite sure I'll get some more of that mantra at this post.

Well, this Najib guy however seems quite oblivious to all these.

He is still a free man and issuing statements refuting the new government's claims.

Here is the latest;

Najib: Benefits of HSR exceed

 cost of project

excerpts;

“The projections from the relevant report I have seen indicate an estimated economic benefit of RM650bil in Gross National Income by year 2069.
“There would have been 110,000 job opportunities created, which is estimated to increase to about 442,000 by year 2069,” he said, urging for the report to be shown to the public.
Such infrastructure projects, he added, bring returns in the form of land appreciation, local economic growth, technology transfer, job opportunities, higher income, brain gain from Singapore, and boost in tourism.
Najib also questioned how the government arrived at the conclusion that the project would cost about RM110bil.
He said the costs of the project as of early this year stand at about RM72bil, taking into account payments made to the citizens for land transfer.
“The true cost can only be known when the tenders for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the rolling stocks and assets of the rail are fully closed on Dec 28 this year,” he said.
He also questioned if the agencies involved in the project have been given a chance to present their case before the cabinet and the Council of Eminent Persons.

Okay, I think those points are quite fair to consider.

And this is the reply given by Dr Mahathir;

RM100 billion HSR for 100000 jobs? Not very efficient

excerpts;
“You want to spend RM60 billion to RM100 billion so that 100,000 people can work. That’s not very efficient,” he said at a buka puasa event here.
Najib had also claimed that the HSR would have garnered RM650 billion for Malaysia by 2069.
Asked to comment on this, Mahathir only said: “We are studying it (the report).”

So, the HSR project was cancelled before being fully studied, is it?

Hmmm....that's not very reassuring.

How about the cancellation of the other projects?

I think the government should thoroughly study things such as the HSR project and the findings be presented to the public before a decision could be made on it.

Otherwise it's not going to be good for the country.

We can't go on forever just repeating the mantra "Najib stole the people's money, so that's why things are like this now", right?

I think we need to be more rationale and mature than that.

Whether Najib really stole the money, let the court decides.

We follow the rules of law, right?

But seriously, I think Najib seems so cool about it.

If I'm the one whom they said had stolen the billions of ringgit, I really don't think I can smile and issue statements like that.

Najib on first day of questioning at MACC headquarters

I would be as quiet as a mouse and try to save my skin more than anything else.

Anyway, the other day, a friend asked for my opinion whether Najib is really going to jail.

I told him that I seriously don't know whether Najib is really guilty at this point but based on what happened in the past few weeks, I think this PH government will make sure he goes to jail, one way or another.

After all, it's their election campaign promise.

And with that, Malaysians probably can keep repeating the mantra for the years to come.

  1. The government is being dictated by a group of the so called "Council of Eminent Persons". The members includes the PM's close buddies who are businessmen.
I wonder if they have vested interest in every advice they give to the PM.
One cannot help but wonders whether the HSR and MRT3 projects would be cancelled if Daim's company has a stake in the project.

He also cleared Najib of 42m from SRC because He accepted Najib explaination that Najib said he doesnt know who deposited the money. OMG Annie do you think if we an odinary citizen used that kind of simple argument in a court of law in any part of the world do you really think we can get away with it? Do you seriously believe a qualified AG or Judges will said he also believe Najib's story?
Annie do you? Annie I give you a benefit of doubt that you are smarter then what you have commented. My advice to you pls stop saying you are neutral when it comes to politic. So you think your unconvincing spin will work.

Basically, your logic is because your pink-lipped hero “made a statement”, it has credibility?

    Problem:

    He is a serial liar.

Here’s what your Bugis hero said in March 2015.

“KUALA LUMPUR: About RM4bil of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)'s investment funds in the Cayman Islands was transferred to a Singaporean Bank to ease the facilitation of transactions, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The remaining US$1.103bil (RM4.08bil) of 1MDB's investment funds managed by the Cayman Monetory Autority has been redeemed in cash and is kept in US currency by the BSI Bank Limited Singapore (BSI Singapore)," said the Finance Minister in a written reply to a question raised by Tony Pua (PKR-Petaling Jaya Utara) in the Dewan Rakyat Wednesday.

"The decision to use a bank in Singapore is to ease the facilitation of fund withdrawals as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulations state its approval is needed for every transaction exceeding RM50mil," replied Najib, who is also Prime Minister.”

    Impressive, kan?

1MDB okay, what. Tak payah bising lagi. Hoorey!

Shame it’s 100% bullshit. And he & Arul both knew it.

Last week, 1MDB director Datuk Kamal Mohd Ali admitted that these units were a scam and 1MDB was insolvent.

Want to quote any more Bugis crook wisdom, Annie : )

    Hopeless.

PS: Your fellow no-hopers ponytail, wall, brick have gotten zero comments on their blogs for weeks. I guess they aren’t too popular, because why read lies? The country has moved on and left you guys behind. I’m only here because I’m jantan gatal and want to date you, see : )

  9. I tell you Najib really did a number with the people's money. Sorry, not the people's money, the donations.

You know doing cost benefits projections for a project the size and length of the HSR or Ecrl was probably based on a lot of assumptions and forecasting. It's not actually an accurate science. A lot of factors have to be assumed and even then a natural disaster would seriously skewed the results. So all the arguments about how great the projects will be for the country at the moment is just conjecture and posturing. But what is real, are the mountains of debt they will create. So the question is should we burden the next few generations of Malaysians with these mountains of debts in the name of progress that we will not even see in our lifetime?

  10. Najib's claim that HSR will generate 100,000 jobs is difficult to believe when some multi national oil companies have less than 100k employees worldwide. Unless he counts the tukang sapu sampah, security guards & other low skilled contract jobs.

I think the truth is najib is counting on hsr to make his trx and bandar 1M work, which is foolish. Trx doesn't make financial sense when there is already an oversupply of office bldgs in the city. Why must we give companies tax break just so that they can locate their offices at trx?

  12. Hi Annie,
The point is, Najib geng already buy the properties, contract of jobs and goodies given out in anticipation the HSR goes thru. Example, the land route, some of his geng already get discount prices, and once HSR build, the geng will sell the land in inflated prices and make easy profit. Tun M want to prevent this from happening. Also connecting the pipe to Singapore is a double edge sword. It could escalate the brain drain from Malaysia to Singapore, it also enhance Singapore as hub, where international travel will goes to Singapore and has convenient connect to Malaysia via HSR thus enhancing Singapore port. Tun M also evaluate on this point. Look at Pedra Branca case, Malaysia got nothing but rocks and Singapore get an island. Look at China, from simple rocks they build airbase in South China Sea. Malaysia also can do that. For Tun M, he is a nationalist and have certain mindset to protect the interest of Malaysian.

  14. "I think most of us will revert to the mantra "Najib stole the people's money, so that's why things are like this now", whenever we can't articulate ourselves properly on any arising issue."

At the outset, I've never agreed with the donation drive or Tabung Harapan due to its moral and economic implication.

I'm of the opinion, its better to sell off... or to make it more palatable, issue bond aka hutang, 50% of Petronas' equity for locals to partly pay off Najib & Jho Low's hutang. Unlike Najib's IPO on Felda where the proceeding disappear into thin air.
Heck... PH gomen can later, conveniently blame Najib & Jho Low if the Rakyat voiced concern over Petronas' IPO.

Therefore, the mantra, "Najib stole the people's money, so that's why things are like this now" would be appropriate for a looong time.

Back to Petronas IPO of sort... oOf-course it should be made on Oil sector only, while the LNG businesses must still be solely owned by Petronas.

After all, with the efficiency and lower cost of extracting shale oil, especially in the US, the future of crude oil business is looming bleak and unprofitable, coupled with environmental enthusiast worldwide clamoring for a cleaner world.
At the same time, electric engines/driven vehicles are getting more and more efficient and reliable. There were even plans to phase out diesel engines in Europe. Also gaining popularity, the environment friendly, dual hydrogen-electric propel vehicles which could charge the batteries when running on hydrogen.

Therefore, its just about time that Petronas be sold... or partly privatize, if you like.

    2. Bulat bulat swallowed hook, line and sinker. 1 trillion debt indeed! I am sure it can be proven that all the so called newly discovered debt were already in public domain. Malaysia is not the kind of country you can hide RM500 billion of debt from everyone for so many years.

    3. This is what I called being responsible..bite the bullet and not be afraid to tell the truth and if need be, to reverse/postpone on the candy promised. But at the same time, this will only reinforce to the public how severe the financial rot we are now saddled with. Took only a few days to pull off the carpet and found all the rotting stuff Najib had swept under it and now even these students' loans electorial promise can't be fulfilled. Not the fault of the new admin la...the fault all goes right back to Najib...every one is very clear about this. Hopefully, no more skeleton to be discovered, else even the promise to end all toll charges have to be deferred too. See the kind of humongous greed by that infamous pair has wrought such calamity to us all. Worse than Ferd and Imelda Marcos.

"Malaysia is not the kind of country you can hide RM500 billion of debt from everyone for so many years."

      Ye ke?

How did Najib hide his RM20 billion 1MDB theft from you?

      Delete
    6. Pakatan so clever they can find a RM20 billion theft but they cannot find a RM500 billion hole in the national balance sheet for so long - unlikely. The fact is that the Pakatan manifesto is unrealistic (Moody’s. allied it credit negative) and that caused the market to drop, made worst by those so called revelations. Yesterday they rolled back some of those fiscally irresponsible manifesto promises eg PTPTN, fuel subsidy and the market rebounded more than one percent. If you are not stupid, what does that tell you.

  27. Annie,

You did not watch TV Ka?

Tun M said, they made their study already before scraping the HSR.

However, if you talk about "future planning" for year 2069, of course they have to study later.

Anthony Like said the priority is to clean up the mess leave behind by the previous administration first.

Once economy is ok. Anything is possible.

The double track to JB current design for speed 150km/h.

They maybe able to increase the voltage so that the train can exceed 200km/h like in UK.

    That can be done also.

Elon Musk also design the hyperloop which is faster than HSR. So on year 2069, the HSR maybe obsolete already. That is why for future planning, there must be different study.

  28. Third time trying to post sorry if it’s repeated !

    Telokwanjah

Fair enough. As a Malaysian working in Singapore I regret the cancellation of the HSR even more. But frankly it may very well be the right thing to do. For now.

Our country has many other, pressing issues that needs attention. We have to stabilise and fix our fiscal deficit - if we do that, then we will always have access to all the funding we need to future plans.

I have family who work in government Hospitals and they all say that the state of the Hospitals and funding is abysmal. Medicines are being denied and rationed, critical servicing of equipment and upkeep of premises is not carried out - all due to the lack of funding. Heck, the nurses even pool together their OWN money to buy BP sets, toner and paper for the copiers and printers. That’s how bad our baseline is currently.

Before you buy auto gate and install more air cons in your house, it would be good first to make sure you can service your car loan, pay your electricity bills and fix that leaky roof....

A lot of what our previous PM says and does sound like proposals from naive blue eyed MBA grads - the PowerPoints always look great but their ideas need tempering with reality.

Hopefully once we take care of essentials, we can then build the HSR, MRT 3,4 and connect Seremban to KL etc etc.

Meantime I’m just hoping that the new gamen can fix these insane queues at the causeway and Tuas....

The Umno blogs like LOA have a very short memory.

As it is, there was a shortage of medicines in govt hospitals last year.

But of course these guys cannot see any wrong in 1MDB so as Umno would say "screw the rakyat".

      Delete
    2. Yes. PH gomen must stop the monopoly of medicine import. If not mistaken, Pharmaniaga is the main AP holder.
Not sure whether they got the AP for medical equipment also.
If more AP are given to other company, sure can reduce the cost of medicine... a lot.

      Delete
    3. On medicine the government need to find ways to reduce the cost.My friend told me to try to source expensive medicine online and was surprised to find the cost can be 90% cheaper from local pharmacy cost.

  30. Annie,

I think for year 2069, hyperloop technology better.

HSR will be too old already.

They are building one in Dubai.

    The train can travel 1,200km/h.

So from JB to KL, 15 minutes only. No joke one.

I think by then the technology becomes a lot cheaper.

    1. Obviously, PH come-up with the manifesto before GE14, not knowing the actual state of our finances.
After all, Najib as PM & Finance Minister at the same time, use to say that the fundamental of our economy is strong. Debt is below 55% of GDP.

Therefore, Annie's mantra... "Najib stole the people's money, so that's why things are like this now"... is apt.

    Hmmm....that's not very reassuring.

How about the cancellation of the other projects?"But seriously, I think Najib seems so cool about it.

If I'm the one whom they said had stolen the billions of ringgit, I really don't think I can smile and issue statements like that.""I told him that I seriously don't know whether Najib is really guilty at this point but based on what happened in the past few weeks, I think this PH government will make sure he goes to jail, one way or another." Annie thats whats you sounds like in your blog. You may not realise but thats you. A trojan horse fully paid by UMNO . What do you do or who do you work for actually. To have such a compassionate and benevolent boss got any vacancy or not for us. Just during the election period can spend so much of your annual leave what else its still the end of May. Not forgetting January till April of your so call holidays. Change interior minister to PKR or DAP minister. Muhyiddin not effective and not doing the job properly. Must call press conference to answer all these questions please.

PH gomen, Muhyiddin or any Ministers for whatever purposes, inherited a work-force that have been used to, or dependent on dedak.
Slightly a fortnight after losing Ge14, its highly likely that majority of PDRM personnel are still beholden to UMNO-Najib. Heck... even Jamal Yunos is still a hero to some of them. Someone or a bunch of them could just close one eye on Jamal.

Sirul escape after he and his immediate boss, Sadri or something, was both acquitted... therefore a free man when Sirul fled to Australia, though illegally. There's also this sense of camaraderie amongst those in uniform and since Sirul and Sadri could have been obeying orders, comrades might show pity and assisted him fleeing.

Therefore opting for a PKR or DAP Interior Ministers, won't change anything for the time being.

    4. "If this mountain of hidden debt can be found just by walking into the MOF then it is not very well hidden is it?"

My dear Watson, the reason this mountain of debt is easily found is because Pirate and Gang didn't in their wildest dream thought they would lose the election...remember how they boasted that they will rule for another 1000 years ? By their conniving calculation, the win is already in the bag...their partners in crime like EC sudah drawn the new delineation lines, ROS sudah kow tim Bersatu, all pictures of Tun cut out from the posters, overseas voters received their ballot papers late thus unable to vote, voting day on mid week to ensure more difficulty for voters to come back or travel to vote, pack with PAS to be penjuru tiga etc etc...and of course Pirate kan ada tons of cash to bribe the voters, even that Jamal Jamban handing out obscene amount of cash to each voter ( all caught on videos ). So these criminals are so dead sure of winning...no need to hide anything la..thinking they will win and just breezed back to office on Monday after declaring public holidays. Tiba tiba...the other side won and they are locked out of the offices..no time to even shred the documents or carry off sensitive secret papers.

That my dear Watson, is the pathetic story of criminals caught totally unaware and flat footed. Got it ?

  39. Annie, I don't trust a finance minister/prime minister who insists that the money found in his account was a donation.
Najib was also the imbecile FM who till today insists that 1mdb today is insolvent because "the TRX land is worth more than it's liabilities". Have you ever managed finances before? Do you believe in accountability? Maybe you could switch to non political blogging
