My ex's recommendations - sad story of Orang Asli kids and Zeti

My ex doesn't read my blog anymore.

He stopped reading it after he decided that he was in love with someone else.

Quite understandable.

But he still occassionally asked me to write something which he felt to be important.

It's nice to receive such requests from him even though I'm not sure whether he read what I posted later on.

They lessen the pain of missing him a bit...

Well, these are some good stuff that he wassap me early this morning. I don't really feel like writing about them as I'm having one of those difficult PMS thing today. So, you all can check them out for yourself ya;

1. This is a Facebook posting. I'm not really on Facebook but my ex is quite active there. The lady whose posting he forwarded to me seems to have a point,

He also recommended the link to this Malaysian Insider article:

On the missing 7 Orang Asli children

I find the article to be quite good.

My ex said lots of people are sick and tired of politics as they feel that too much attention has been taken away from the real things that matter because of it.

I agree.

Unfortunately, many readers of this blog seem to think otherwise.

Like it or not, the mess which is currently going on is still the hot topic of discussion for them.

2. This is another link to a good article which my ex recommended to me via wassap this morning,

Zeti tries to rise above Malaysia's creeping crisis

And these are bits of the Euromoney article;

Zeti in her own words

Over the course of her Euromoney interview, Zeti Akhtar Aziz touched on many subjects other than the current crisis afflicting Malaysia:

On her successor: "The governor is appointed by the king on the recommendation of the finance minister [PM Najib]. I hope the successor will be from within the bank. My three deputies have grown up in the bank too. They know the bank, they are very driven and they are very capable. I don’t know [who will be my successor], I cannot predict the future.

On the slumping ringgit: "We should not step backward and peg the exchange rate in these times. You want the flexibility to adjust." "Our economy is more diversified than what is perceived by the market. We are less dependent on commodities. The market doesn’t appreciate this. The currency does not reflect our fundamentals."

On her most recent triumph: "We signed the agreement for an integrated banking framework [in Asean] recently and that was so challenging. It took five years to get there and I’m glad it got done while I’m still here."

On the slowdown in global emerging markets:  "Growth is moderating in the emerging world but there is still growth. Asia remains an important growth centre in the world economy, so to highlight a very adverse economic outlook is not correct. Greater Asia, and Asean in particular, is showing good growth of 4% to 6%. We are not really facing major economic vulnerabilities."

On China’s economy:  "I am not alarmed by the development there. Yes, they are slowing down, but to more sustainable levels. To me, this is a period of transition for China…so as not to be destabilizing to the region. Their handling [of the slowdown] has been sound, it has had some costs, some pain has to be endured but over the medium term, it will make their growth more sustainable. They have the fiscal space to do it. The stock market is not everything. China needs to encourage stronger consumption demand. They have over-investment now."

On the global financial architecture:  "I would like to see more emerging market representation (at the IMF and World Bank). They are trying very hard to achieve better representation of the global economy given that its configuration has changed so drastically but there’s very slow progress on that. I would also like to see these agencies take a greater role during global financial crises. There’s no other international agencies that can have their role. They need to exercise and perform their role."

  1. Dont worry about missing your ex. Its just life. Life goes on, and be patient. On the other note, i am a die hard UMNO supporter, and has been voting for them through thick or thin. Not this time. I just dont trust Najib. Will be voting opposition unless he resign.

    1. I absolutely disagree. Read the Bank Negara official statement issued after the AG Chambers' statement. Then come in here again and argue point after point on what was "sloppy work"?

O'll write more after I read Annie's post in full.

  6. Like 16.51, I support and voted for UMNO/BN all this years. Compared to the alternative, the UMNO/BN government is way better than the opposition, but they have been consistently sliding down the slope since Abdullah Badawi's time.

So, unlike 16.51, come PRU14 and I will vote BN for the DUN/state seat. For the Parliamentary seat, I will have to think and consider very hard many, many times before I cast my vote.

    1. Good on you, man. Think hard, decide and pray to God that it's the right decision.

Especially hard to vote because of Najib. Oh God, please remove this difficulty for us.

I haven't decided on my votes yet. I'll be doing the same as I said above. Good luck to us all.

  7. Aiyya Annie, just because your ex said lots of people are sick and tired of politics .. too much attention has been taken away from the real things that matter, now you tempias kat kita orang di sini, eh?

Many readers of this blog seem to think otherwise? Your ex and even you do not know what we exactly think.

Is it not possible that many of us here and elsewhere talk a lot about politics because the situation is so bad now that many hope the more we criticize, hit, condemn and goddamn those responsible, the better the chances of getting things like 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion be resolved ASAP?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Remember, when the major issues are resolved, one way or another, more time will be spent on socio-economic issues. If any blame is to be placed now, a lot of it lies on the Government.

They are the ones that hold power, the purse string and all. They have promised during the election campaign to do all sorts. But bang, they did this 1MDB issue and the RM2.6 billion thingy and now the whole world is laughing at us and we fighting each other to get Najib out.

So, everybody has to help get Najib replaced so that the faster it happens, the faster can we talk, promote and canvass support for socio-economic activities.

What Najib did has even caused the Ringgit falling, investment whittling, the economy weakening, then he imposed GST, causing more difficulties and hardship on the people. UMNO must really replace him ASAP.

  9. Do you know that the Orang Aslis have vastly changed and progressed from the time when they were mostly in the jungles even after Merdeka? Thank to the Government since Merdeka for having an Orang Asli Dept equipped with qualified and suitable manpower at the various levels and reasonable funds to provide facilities for their progress and development. They even have an Orang Asli Hospital in Gombak.

There were Anthropologists and Sociologists staffing the Department, dedicated ones, used to spending days and nights at a stretch in the jungles meeting those far-out settlements, discussing and planning their needs. I personally know 1-2 of them. Now there so many settlements near to roads with electricity and water supply. Yes, schools not too far away, too. Even hostels, like the one the 7 unfortunate children attended in Pos Tohoi.

Sure the authorities are investigating the case of the 7 children and a report will be submitted, hopefully published. But let's not pre-empt the investigation report by causing alarm of any sort. No harm to draw people's attention though, so that those responsible will be on their toes and we, as individuals, do think of their plight as and when relevant.

  10. "I hope the successor will be from within the bank. My three deputies have grown up in the bank too." -

There should never be a politician as BNM Governor. Googling a few minutes did not produce any information of any politician as a Central Bank Governor anywhere in the world.

The former Malayan Banking boss, a respected account, was mentioned somewhere as a possible BNM Governor candidate. But Najib has appointed him a Minister and is therefore a politician for quite some time already and should not be made Governor.

I hope very much that one of the three deputies will replace Zeti at end of her tenure next year. If an outsider, especially a politician is appointed, I'd suspect some questionable intent in the decision.

  11. Annie, the kids could have easily been found within hours of them going missing if the rescue team had good sniffer dogs. But unfortunely, this being the land of Ketuanan, these orang asli kids had to pay the price for the ketuanan's halal haram belief.

During insurgency, military had dogs that could sniff bobby traps placed below ground. That was the 60s. Then there was scourge in the form of a Mamak PM in early 80s, everything changed. Even, the military which was secular was not spared. Race and religion was placed above everything for political mileage.

    2. Insurgency. British, Aussies, kiwis,Fijians did most of the fighting. They stay back to help us to fight against indon Sukarno who want to crush Malaysia under confrontation after the formation of Malaysia. The indon paratroopers dropped over labis and indon marines landed in pontian. Mindef call up non Malays ready to defend the country by basic military training

    1. Dear Haji Zin.

Replacing Zeti would be very-very bad for the ringgit and Najib's reputation.

If Zeti had been doing a sloppy job, Najib is the one who should be at fault. As PM cum Finance Minister, Najib is the 'Captain of the Ship'. After-all, Zeti was not involved/consulted when TIA was hijacked and 1MDB coined into existence. Zeti was not the one who engaged Jho Low as middleman to 'negotiate', on behalf of the Gomen, with PetroSaudi. Zeti was not the one holidaying on a luxurious yacht, rented and hosted by Jho Low.

  16. heartbreaking about them kids.
we are too stupid about 1mdb that we neglect this part of what happens in the country.
now its too late. 5 kids died because we are too busy ignoring their story n too busy focusing on imaginary things that happen with 1 mdb n 2.6b of someone else's money.
now monsun month is coming can the country focus on that? some people in kelantan after the previous flood is sill leaving in tents.
can we please focus on helping the rakyat on real issues instaed on issues that we dont really know.

  17. Thank goodness the M'sia govt is a bumi govt, if it to be dapig chinese chauvinist govt, the orang aslis would have no chance. They would be left as scavengers in the country. With the bumi govt, slowly but surely the orang aslis have moved forward. It is not easy as most of them are reluctant to leave their jungle paradise. Anyway RIP little children. For the surviving ones, get well soon.
