Gamuda highway deals - Guan Eng versus Datuk Kadir

Something seems wrong with this news

Highway takeovers will give Gamuda money for Penang projects

excerpts 1;
Gamuda Bhd’s cash position will be significantly enhanced, providing significant liquidity to its asset profile, upon successful acquisition of its four tolls by Finance Ministry.
MIDF Research said it opined the the potential cash proceeds could be utilised for other projects, which includes the funding of its large infrastructure projects in Penang.

excerpts 2;
“The market also has high expectations of the massive Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) of which Gamuda is in the driver’s seat via its 60 per cent stake in the consortium, that has been appointed the project delivery partner,” it added.

I always wonder why Guan Eng as the finance minister wants to take over the Gamuda's highways in particular?

So that Gamuda can do things in DAP's beloved Penang, is it?

Well, today we have this story;

PM’s media adviser wants Gamuda’s highway deals scrutinised

excerpts;
Writing in his Facebook account, the media adviser to the prime minister acknowledged Gamuda’s plan to sell its toll highway assets in the Klang Valley to the government for RM6.2 billion for whatever is left of the concession period.“Some say it’s a win-win deal. Others aren’t so sure. The latter says it’s cheaper to compensate Gamuda for non-toll collection than to buy the four highways outright, at an amount less than the proposed purchase price. In any case, the highways will revert to the government in about 10 years when the concession period ends,” said Kadir, who is also a Pribumi Bersatu supreme council member.
Isn't it a bit weird to scrutinise the deals now that Guan Eng on Saturday had said this;

Acquiring four highways would save govt RM5.3bil in compensation

That's the Finance Minister talking, okay. It's basically a done deal...as Anwar would likely put it.

Then why did Datuk Kadir still asked for the deals to be scrutinised?

Well, I suspect that he knows something shitty about the deals and decided to make noise about it.

Maybe his journalist self managed to overcome the politician side of him this time.

Let's wait for the media of Malaysia Baru to chase after Guan Eng and get more details of the deals.

I'm sure Datuk Kadir would have sounded his juniors now running the media outlets to do so. For the sake of the rakyat, okay.

If they don't, then all I would say is that things are all still the same....or maybe even worse.

  3. PLUS is UEM 51% and EPF 49%. It is 100% owned by the government. The government could always make it toll FREE but choose not to. No need to buy other highways ostensibly to ease the burden of the people. Maszlee Malik said people of Simpang Renggam no need to pay toll a day after PH become government. So many days had passed already Sheikh????

    Bukan setakat kata nak bagi tol free, nak turun 1 SEN pun tak boleh buat!!!..

  4. I don’t know Annie. I don’t really trust this guy. Too much drama. A simple day to day issue he could harp it and turned it into a never ending soap opera. Just watch his antics in parliament. He probably a smart and brilliant guy but he needs to dial down his drama-queen antics..

  5. My first thots the same, what's the basis of selection? The finance minister should disclose the basis of selection if he has nothing to hide.

  6. Aisay Annie...u seem to be getting your tits in a twist for no rhyme or reason. Kadir Jasin said the deal needs to be scrutinised and u immediately jump that something is not right...as if Kadir J knows about all the goings on in PH. Anyone would want to look closely into the deal to see that the rakyat benefits and not some politician & his wife & cronies. Annie when you hentam PH and don't even mention the little good they have done...your credibility takes a hit...Think abt that.

  10. Aku ada pernah cadang kenderaan perdagangan tetap kena bayar tol. Kenderaan persendirian mansuhkan la bayaran tol berperingkat2. Teksi dan bas tol free.
    Cadangan untuk semua lebuhraya.

    Anyway hapus tol ni bukan perkara kecik. Cakap memang senang. Haiwan yang janji PH bentuk gomen top hapus ni memang yang jenis sekolah tinggi pun tak guna. Yang percaya janji2 haiwan pilihanraya ni pun belajar tinggi2 tak guna.

    Kelihatan nya kerajaan PH belum jugak lupa atau buat pekak aje janji pilihanraya (aku tak suka perkataan manifesto ni).

    Btw, how come the environmental ministers have not said anything about the latest toxic release incident in johor? I thought ph government is all about saving the environment & people's health? Ingatkan minister yg ada phd dari U elite dah perbaiki sop & pemantauan lepas kejadian tempoh hari.

    1. "Btw, how come the environmental ministers have not said anything about the latest toxic release incident in johor?"

      Yes. Yeo Bee Yin has been silent regarding this toxic release compared to the last one around March 2019.

      "I thought ph government is all about saving the environment & people's health?"

      Apparently they are in token ways, such as this recent report according to The Star:-

      "WHEN you go for your weekly grocery shopping starting Monday, do not be alarmed if you’re refused a plastic bag.

      "Penang has taken its statewide plastic bag ban one step further – no plastic bag even if you’re more than willing to pay 20 sen for one."

      https://www.thestar.com.my/metro/views/2019/06/25/no-more-plastic-bags-on-mondays/

      Also, their "no plastic straws" ruling.

      I wonder how effective in saving the environment and marine life IN MALAYSIA have been these token measures to "protect the environment" by PH state and federal governments.

      Also, the PH state government of Penang wants to build three islands on reclaimed land,which will damage to the environment and cause a few thousand fishermen t lose their livelihoods but plastic bags and plastic straws they ban.

      "Why Penang's land reclamation plans are so controversial"

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Qb-hL9IWc

      Johoreans should come out strongly and protest about these toxic discharges and pollution, which threatens their health and well being.

    2. The latest toxic pollution in PG. 4 PH ministers looked confused and clueless when reporters asked them about government response. The state government also blurred sort of look at each other. So how to install confidence to the rakyat??

  13. what annie is saying is its another DAP plot to take over Msia & stuff the malays.

    i dont like LGE as a personality, but he has done a lot of good work since coming on board. Not perfect. Penang’s well run, highest FDI of any state - gee i wonder why.

    This is a good deal, plain and simple. And Kadir has the right to question, just like he questions the royalty.

    ReplyDelete
  14. People are right not to trust LGE. The savings he talks about (compensation to the toll companies for not hiking toll rates) are future payments stretching I believe into decades in the future. You cannot take moneys payable in the future at face value, and all that up, and call it RM6 billion savings in today’s money! Every Finance Minister must know that to see what a future cash flow is worth in today’s money you have to discount or reduce the cash flow using the “net present value” method. Technically he is not lying but it is misleading to say the least. For example if I promise to pay you RM1 in 2050, it is probably worth a few cents in today’s money. So LGE’s so called savings of RM6B, I want to know is that today’s money or future money? If future money, what’s it actually worth in 2019 money terms?

  17. " But there is no denying that looking at the current net book value of the highways, the revenue, traffic flow as well as earnings, it can be said that overall, the government is over-paying the highway operators, especially for the LDP and SPRINT assets, which works out at about 4.3x and 4.1x book value respectively. Worse, SPRINT is a loss-making highway.
