The sneaky way they are getting at Lynas

So, all those talks about doing things properly based on facts and scientific evidence are just plain bullshit.

It's going to be decided by PH politicians and not experts after all.

Parliament approves formation of bipartisan caucus to study Lynas report
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 26): Parliament has approved the formation of a caucus to study the report that will be presented by the Lynas review committee tomorrow.
In a press conference at Parliament lobby today, Wong Tack (PH-Bentong) and Nor Azrina Surip (PH-Merbok) announced the formation of the caucus and their appointment as chairman and deputy chairman respectively of the nine-member caucus.
“Lynas review committee will present this report tomorrow (to the Government) and the caucus will be studying the report and thereafter engage the Cabinet and make recommendations to protect the people and environment,” Wong said.
“35 MPs from all parties, including Umno and Pas, have agreed to support the formation of the caucus to monitor Lynas,” he added.
The other members of the caucus include Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka), Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang), Awang Hashim (Pas- Pendang), Datuk Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik), Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (PH-Hulu Langat), Maria Chin Abdullah (PH-Petaling Jaya) and Chan Ming Kai (PH-Alor Setar).
Nine members, seven from PH, one from BN and one from Pas named in the report by The Edge. I guess the ratio is about that. The BN and Pas MPs are obviously for window dressing.
And that self proclaimed anti-Lynas environmentalist with huge palm oil plantation (though declared to be the poorest MP with RM20k a month income) Wong Tack is to be the chairman.

Yup, the one who even accused government agencies (without any evidence whatsoever) of being bribed by Lynas to come up with positive reviews about the company's operations.
I think I already know what the outcome of all this nonsense going to be. The facts and scientific evidence wouldn't really matter.
This is what they said back then,

Neutral experts for Lynas review committee

excerpts;
Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Yeo Bee Yin said the Cabinet on Oct 10 had decided that members of the committee would be comprised of those who had not openly stated their stand, either to support or protest against Lynas’s operations.
“This is to prevent any parties from questioning the credibility of the committee, due to the stand of some of its members (over the issue),” she said in a statement today.
It turns out that's just to calm things down when people made noise over the impartiality of the committee which was originally to be headed by Fuziah Salleh and Wong Tack.
Now they have this supposedly bi-partisan caucus bullshit to decide on the committee's findings.
And they announced it just a day before the committee was supposed to come out with its report which is today so that no one can protest against it.
That's very sneaky.
And the environment minister is the sneakiest one of all. She let the announcement be made by Wong Tack and not by herself so that she can remain innocent and sweet.
Typical DAP.
Why they are pushing this Lynas thing so much?
Politics of course....and maybe money....lots of money.
It's nothing to do with the environment or the people.
Otherwise, they would want this Lynas thing be decided based on facts and scientific evidence.
Well, that's the kind of people in power now.
To all those people working for Lynas, just be patient and pray
like what you all did in 2012
InsyaAllah your prayers will be heard.

  1. In any case, your article is somewhat misleading.

    What is happening is this....

"Parliament has approved the formation of a caucus to study the report that will be presented by the Lynas review committee tomorrow."

THEY are NOT doing the report ITSELF, only studying the conclusions of the scientists.

How can they alter the scientific facts presented?

    Oh, yeah...

    ...wait a minute!

You mean you're afraid of something like this?

"It will be a disappointment if embattled former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is facing graft charges, had indeed ordered the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) audit report to be tampered with, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said that it is unwise to tamper with the Auditor-General's final report on 1MDB, as such reports must be free and impartial from any influence."

    Ohhhhhhhh.

    Now I get it.

Annie is worried that Tun Dr M will call the report makers and ask them to change and delete evidence!

Not just that, even his PolSec has the same powers!

    Dahsyat, beb.

Even a lower-order civil servant could tamper freely with official audits during the Reign of the Kleptocrats.

But maybe this era is not like your bosses' era, Annie?

    Why not wait and see?

  2. Annie,

//So, all those talks about doing things properly based on facts and scientific evidence are just plain bullshit.//

In the same way in which we should not have opinions and make decisions about Najib Razak's guilt just yet, maybe we should not be so hasty to have opinions and make decisions about any pending Lynas decision :)

But we are all humans and it is our nature to hold opinions and make decisions.

For myself, I am puzzled at the speed with which the review committee has concluded its studies and prepared its reports.

Given the very short timeframes involved from appointment of the review committee to the tabling of this report, there is no way any meaningful environmental studies could have been conducted where data is collected and analysed.

I am guessing that the review committee will call for new environmental impact studies to be conducted.

If so, this will mean that Lynas will be continuing operations until such time as those environmental studies are complete.

But, it is just a wild guess on my part.

//And the environment minister is the sneakiest one of all.//

No lah, it is NOT sneakiest, it is inexperience.

Wong Tack is merely an MP and, off his own bat, has zero authority to announce the formation of anything - not even a jamban cleaning team.

It should have been the Minister who announces the appointment of Wong Tack, which gives him the requisite authority, after which Wong Tack can go berlagak and announce whatever he likes.

//I think I already know what the outcome of all this nonsense going to be.//

And I think Najib Razak, Zahid Hamidi and all those UMNO politicians are all guilty of corruption :)

//To all those people working for Lynas, just be patient and pray//

    Prayer brings comfort. :)

BUt only the caucus, lead by Wong Tack and Nor Azrina, can bring legal certainty.

    1. What about your previous calls for the committee's findings should be accepted based on facts and scientific evidence? BTW, the time frame of the committee was given by the ministry, no?

    1. Jealous my ass. That you call doing a good job? She should be the one announcing the formation of the caucus bullshit and answer to the media what is it really for and why Wong Tack who is clearly anti-Lynas is the chairman.

    2. U mean Najib did a better job by concealing and tampering with the audit report? Is that your idea of doing a good job?

    3. Because of Annie's faulty memory, let me help out:

      https://www.malaymail.com/s/1129795/pac-chief-denies-jho-low-owns-good-star

"He also justified the decision to initially omit two paragraphs explaining GSL’s ownership from the PAC report.

“As the information received by PAC is classified, PAC cannot insert that information as it violates our duty and responsibilities, and can create prejudice towards many parties,” he added.

DAP’s Tony Pua and other opposition members of the PAC had last month accused Hasan of editing the parliamentary panel’s report on 1MDB without the knowledge or approval of other members.

According to Pua, Hasan cut off a sentence from the report that said: “Bank Negara Malaysia was voluntarily informed by the country’s authorities that Good Star Limited is a company owned by an individual with no links to the PetroSaudi Group”.

      Wow.

Who ordered Hasan Carimakan to delete the para?

      Two guesses : )

That's why I say, Annie's biggest fear is that

      a) Tun Dr M

      b) Tun Dr M's polsec

      will tamper with Lynas report.

There was a hell of a lot of tampering under the last regime, huh Annie?

      Heh heh heh.

  5. Annie,

//What about your previous calls for the committee's findings should be accepted based on facts and scientific evidence?//

No change there for me, which is why I hope the legal certainty is based on sound and proper scientific evidence and not suka hati aje.

And becos I dont believe sound and proper scientific evidence exist yet, given the short period between the appointment of the review commitment and the tabling of this report, I made a wild guess that the review committee will ask for such studies to be conducted.

//BTW, the time frame of the committee was given by the ministry, no?//

    Honestly?? I dunno.

Logically, yes, the matter falls within the Minister's portfolio.

Another thing I am not clear about is the scope of the review committee.

Were they suppose to conduct new environmental studies??

Or were they to just read the old EIS and go "yea" or "nay"?

    Itu gua tak tau.

    1. If everything ends up not sure, why bother to set up the review committee in the first place? And you think appointing that anti-Lynas Wong Tack as chairman of the caucus bullshit bring legal certainty?

    2. The Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry announced six individuals to form a new committee...

Institute for Environment and Development research fellow Professor Datuk Dr Mazlin Mokhtar

United Nations University - International Institute for Global Health visiting professor Professor Dr Jamal Hisham Hashim

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Occupational Safety, Health and Environment unit director Professor Dr Maketab Mohamed

Universiti Putra Malaysia’s faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Community Health Department Associate Professor Anita Abdul Rahman

Universiti Malaysia Pahang’s Earth Resources and Sustainability Centre director Associate Professor Dr Muzamir Hasan

Former director of the Department of Environment’s Air and Hazardous Substances division Datin Paduka Che Asmah Ibrahim.

      So.

      How ahhhhhh, Annie?

Annie was quite happy with the way Hasan Carimakan fucked up the PAC report.

Annie was quite happy with the way the Si Pendek Bermisai produced a bullshit FOREX report to implicate Tun, just before PRU14 (that backfired badly).

Annie was quite happy with the way A-G Pandi (former treasurer of Umno Kelatan) cleared Pokjib on 1MDB and ignored evidence from 7 countries.

My guess is, the Lynas committee may be too neutral for Annie's tastes : )

  7. Annie,

//If everything ends up not sure, why bother to set up the review committee in the first place?//

    Whoa!! Easy up there, grrrl!!

I didn't set up the review committee :)

But whosoever did set it up may have given that review committee some directions on what they are supposed to be doing.

I don't know what those directions may be as I am too lazy to go look up the relevant websites which may have the info. :)

//And you think appointing that anti-Lynas Wong Tack as chairman of the caucus bullshit bring legal certainty?//

Well, I think that any decision the caucus makes on the Lynas plant will lend weight towards legal certainty, regardless of what views Wong Tack may hold, don't you think?

After all, the caucus is going to advise the Minister on what the next move should be and I am pretty sure the Minister will take on board any recommendations the caucus makes.

But, I am neither familiar with the political process nor am I a lawyer, so I am just speaking as a layperson with all the innocence of a layperson :)

My guess is still that the review committee will say that the available evidence is inconclusive or incomplete and more studies will be required.

It's just a wild guess on my part based on nothing more then contemplating the contents of my navel :)
