Why I like Dr Mahathir

Hung out earlier this morning with someone who knows me since I was very young.

It was a very pleasant Sunday morning lepaking after breakfast.

The guy among others asked why I seem to be so fond of former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad these days.

He remembers that back in college, I was more of a socialist and did not really care much for what was then called Mahathirism.

I explained that I am now more matured and see a lot of things that I missed to notice when I was younger.

I actually only realized that I like Dr Mahathir after he retired as PM.

The guy is cute, smart, witty and being now 90 years old, amazingly youthful.

But the thing I like most about the handsome old man is that he is sincere.

He sincerely wants the best for this country.

Observe him closely without prejudice and you will agree with me.

Anyway, the reason why I suddenly wanted to write on how I feel about Dr Mahathir was because the guy I was with this morning showed me this rather cute video,

I can understand why the singer suddenly forgot the lyrics when he realized who was among the crowd.

Everything is so natural with Dr Mahathir.

  2. I love and respect Tun Mahathir too!! Don't forget Tun Siti Hasmah. She is very loveable and humble even after being a premier wife for 22 years. In my books, they are the ideal couple :) Their children are also very well behaved. Except for Marina, none are giler glamer. May God bless them always..

The busker group in the video is pretty good. So cute when he forgot the lyrics when he noticed Tun Mahathir. Noticed also that when Tun M gave the money, Tun Siti Hasmah stayed behind instead of trying to share the "limelight". So unlike our present premier's wife.

    1. I wrote "hari2 terakhir tun razak d London" n posted it in eddy's blog.'just my thoughts'.I did mention d similarities between tun rahah n tun asmah. but what I did not mention is that when tun m gave a speech 2 d students I cld c tun asmah busily taking down notes - may b 2 give tun m n appraisal later.it is true that there is a (loving) wife behind a great man.

  11. After Mahathir is gone before GE14, PM Najib & Sultan Johor will revoke Syed Mokhtar PTP concession and recall all his corporate bank loans. Daim's fund will be seized for tax evasion. Pak Lah & KJ camp will minimize Mukhriz up north. The Army and Police will stay loyal to Zahid & Hishamuddin, PM's cousin during this anti-Mahathir camp sweep. All the key Umno warlords and Sultans will help eliminate any state level, pro-Mahathir sympathizers.

Anwar, LKS, Nik Aziz, Hadi should just watch this show. It's not a PR fight. Hope Mahathir camp don't ask for their help to survive PM Najib's slaughter.
This will be interesting times ahead.
    Haha.

  13. I like you giving space to this so-called 'Kluang Girl'. She is like a mosquito. Every once in a while, you would want to raise your hand and swat around the mosquito. You have to give us some amusement. Life would be so dull if everything is monotonous and contains only one ideology.

The same cannot be said in opposition blogs. No room for discourse if you don't blend in insults with your words. So full of cybertroopers, paid and unpaid, blinded by the same ideology.

Annie! You embody the spirit of BN. The spirit of all inclusiveness. The spirit of freedom of thought and speech. I hope you can continue carrying that little flame of yours because many are like you and don't want to see this country falls into the hands of family-controlled, repressed freedom of speech DAP, PAS and PKR.

  14. Yesterday, it was reported in no uncertain term that the stuttering minister stuttered about past leader(s) who were trying to teach the present leaders on how to run the country.
Sad, so sad with just a little power, the offspring of the Malaya's elite showing off, as if this nation of Malaysia belongs to them and them only to be manipulated as they seen fit!
To this minister, please remember, not all those who heard or read you were the fingers talker type, there were a lot more of the reading between the lines abler who were still alive and actively kicking who still can separate the seeds from the husks!

  16. Dear Annie and fellow commentators,

A wise man once said, " when God blessed or pleased with a country, He gaves us a great leader ". So I guess when we have not so great leader, we (as a country) should ponder upon what we have done wrong to deserve that leader...wallahhualam.
I do not know Tun M personally, but he is the reason that make me proud to be Malaysian among international community.

    1. Would Dr Mahathir allowed the violent protest against the Datum Jelatek condominium project?

It seems to me that the "Malay Dilemma" mindset and thought process is still alive and well in Malaysia.

Would Dr M have countenanced the existence of "no go" areas where non-Malay Muslims are not welcome or where they cannot live?

Is the "Malay Dilemma" a catch all excuse to justify racist diatribes and racist thinking?

It seems to me that the Malaysian Malay-Muslim community is split between those who are comfortable living and working in a globalized environment and those who are fearful of doing so because they feel that they cannot compete.

Since Dr M has a penchant for pontificating on all sorts of issues, I hope that he will bring his considerable intellect to bear on this situation.

    2. The irony about Datum Jelatek is that according to PKNS all the buyers of the condos are Malay!

Either you are an idiot or a master spinner..What will be your comment if those rundown flats in Bkt Bintang is torn down and replaced with new apartment that will be dwelled also by the Malays...

      Delete
    5. Anon 13:44

Sure, why not? Bukit Bintang could do with a major facelift anyways.

But will it be an open and transparent exercise with open tenders, fair value compensation for acquired properties etc.

And sure, the Malays are welcome to live in Bukit Bintang. Like they are welcome in, say, Bukit Pantai, Bukit Tunku, Damansara Heights, Taman Tun, Sri Hartamas, Mont'Kiara and Bangsar.

Come to think of it, there are quite a few Malays owning real estate and living in these areas.

They certainly aren't complaining of feeling "deprived", are they?

So, is there a difference between the "globalised" Malays and the Datum Jelatek demonstrators?

      You tell me, brudder.

  18. Hi Annie. I had the privilege of having both Tun M and Tun Siti at a kenduri last year and was sitting at the same table with them. When my mom wanted to salam Tun Siti and Tun Siti didn't notice that, Tun M, gently said ' Yang.. ada oghang nak salam'. I was totally awed by that . They are both very affectionate even at their golden age. It still puts a smile on my face whenever i remember that very incident.. :)
