A good young Umno leader

I met this rather interesting guy at a function in Kuala Lumpur the other day.

He seems to be quite nice and charming.

Our main topic of conversation was mostly about social programs needed by kampung folks. He was particularly passionate about having more of such programs at the place where he lives in Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan.

In the middle of our conversation, he received a call and looked serious as he talked on the phone.

"Sorry, that's my wife who called just now. There has been an accident involving one of the villagers near our home. The family needs help," he said before making a call to someone else. I can't help but overheard him giving instructions to the person at the other end of the line to immediately check on the affected family and render the necessary assistance. He told the other person that he will visit the family when he returns from KL.

"Are you a wakil rakyat or something?" I asked after he finished his phone conversation.

"No lah. I just like to help around a bit," he said with a hearty laugh.

He had introduced himself simply as Pian.

I did some checking on him and it turned out that he is Datuk Sufian Awang, an exco member of Umno Youth and political secretary of PM DS Najib Razak.

I had checked his background and track record and was quite impressed.

Sufian is a trained lawyer based in Kuantan. He worked for DS Mukhriz Mahathir in an Umno  Youth committee during the height of Khairi Jamaludin regime before elected as an exco member himself after securing the highest number of votes during the last Umno Youth election.

As far as my checks are concerned, the guy is smart, honest, and clean of corrupt tendencies. The 42-year-old guy is known for speaking what he thinks is right without much hesitation, a character that I like.

Sufian is a father of three boys and a girl. His wife is a respected lawyer and runs a legal firm in Kuantan. She was said to be the "garang" type, which means that Sufian has the characteristics of a good leader. I always believe that a man with a garang wife normally wouldn't be involved in anything hanky panky....like my father. Not unlike me, Sufian's wife is also of Sino-Malay parentage.

My checks also suggest that Sufian is the leading candidate to contest the Kuantan parliament seat against PKR's Fuziah Salleh in the event Umno is to take over the fight for that Malay majority constituency from MCA.

I believe Sufian stands a good chance to win if given the chance to contest there despite the recent anti-Lynas campaign which had caused BN a lot of potential votes, especially among the Kuantan Chinese community members.

Readings on the ground in Kuantan indicated that fielding an MCA candidate would not help much in winning back the lost Chinese votes for BN.

I hope Sufian will contest the Kuantan seat and wins. Umno needs such young incorruptible leaders now more than ever.

  10. Suffian chap is a good guy....but even if he wins, there will be no voters come GE14 and GE15 as most Kuantan folk would be dead due to Lynas approved by the BN.

Just because you are a good guy but in the wrong party that promulgates killer projects doesnt protect you from loosing.

Voters in Malaysia must grow up. Dont use excuses like "he never even come and say hello to me" or he is "Lim Kit Siang Chinese" vs "Ghani Melayu" issues to make pivotal decisions.

Grow up. Its the policies that they back that matters. Its 2013 for God's sake. Not the stone age.

    1. But last time I checked Anwar Ibrahim and that Wong Tuck fella said they are ok with Lynas if the project goes through the "front door". Does that means they want the Kuantan folks to all die through the front door?
On the Kit Siang vs Ghani thing, if BN is waging a Chinese vs Malays campaign in Gelang Patah, wouldn't it means that Ghani is going to lose because Gelang Patah is a Chinese majority constituency?

    2. Yeah right! In my constituency, we used to have Yusmadi Yusof as our MP. He was always missing in action. Funnily we saw his face quite frequently on Astro Awani.

The UMNO ADUNs ended up filling for his duties. It was unsurprising that Anwar Ibrahim dropped him for GE13.

Some people may be good in talking, but they are just bad wakil rakyat. Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Nurul Izzah, Anwar Ibrahim are among them.

  13. Fuziah is a bad leader.. I voted for her but she dun even care to visit is.. Well, lynas could gv some negative impact...but dun u think govt is so stupid to let ktn people die coz of lynas.. If u say ktn people will die in ge14 and ge15, he he he, so naive and stupid, so do the mb adnan, his fmly and bn people, they r also the residents.. people will not die coz of lynas, but people can b dead coz of riots caused by the pkr n dap.. Could b racial riots stirred by dap n pkr.. BN successfully managed racial harmony despite cultural and religios disparities.. But PKR DAP, hmmmm.. eeeee... So scary... Dun let ur kids live in uncertainties... Think bout it ktn folks..

  15. A lot of people has forgotten that the core of UMNO's business is actually working for the grassroots. A lot of UMNO people themselves forgot this.

It's good to see candidates like this populating the electoral choices. I hope he wins too.
