I have actually been following the development of events in Ukraine quite closely for weeks, even before the actual Russian invasion started.
After all, the conflict there will have a global impact, which will affect Malaysia too.
Like many others, my sympathies were more for the Ukrainians.
Russians after all, as I pointed out in my last posting, have not been very nice neighbours.
They invaded other countries and as proven in. the past, they were quite brutal when they did that.
So, when Putin announced that he had ordered a "special military operation" in Ukraine, I was like, shit, there they go again, thousands are going to die.
And again, like many others, I felt that Putin was bullshitting the world when he said among the main objectives of that mission were the deNazification and demilitarisation of Ukraine.
How can Ukraine, which president is of Jewish heritage, have Nazis, right?
But, as I have said, I want to remain objective in my view of the events in Ukraine and for that I did a bit of research about these Putin's Ukrainian Nazis.
Among other things, I found a series of videos made in 2018 by the British BBC about such people in Ukraine.
This is one of them;
There were other more scary videos including one, which shows a group of school children chanting "Hang the Russians!".
I'm quite sure now as to what Putin was referring as the Nazis in Ukraine.
Still, I think Putin was probably just using the presence of such people in Ukraine to justify the invasion.
It would definitely appeal to the anti-Nazi sentiments of the Russian population.
They after all suffered 21 million deaths to defeat the Nazis in World War Two.
A lesson I learnt was that, we shouldn't just dismiss people like Putin as a mad man or monster because he made a statement that seemed outrageous to us.
They may be telling the truth, despite their probable dubious motives.
That's why we need to be objective when told of things by people.
We should do our own research and decide for ourselves instead of just following the narratives preached by others.
I believe Malaysians need to do that so that we would not be so easily fooled by people, especially those with political self-interests.

Putin has a right to feel insecure (mistrust of the west) if you look at the history of Russia, how many times the country has been trespassed since earlier times. the last being Germany, under Hitler,even France under Napolean tried, though not successful.

In 1955 Soviet initiated a warsaw pact to balance the Nato. In 1956 Russia tank rode into Hungary to stop student uprising against stalinistic govt. After the fall on soviet in 1991. One by one of former warsaw pact countries were joining Nato. It will not be a surprise if neutral sweden and finland will be joining Nato after this.So what Russia is doing is counterproductive. You do not use force. We have to give credit to Putin for reforming Russia economy after the fall of soviet Tax burden under Putin is lower than most europeon countries. Within 30 years economic reform they have more than 130 billionaires.They have a trust from west financial. What in god's name that they want to throw what they have build to invade Ukraine. They have more nuke than nato to provide their for security. Most of thier energy export is to western europe. In europe stop or throttle down the energy. Russia will suffer. They can sell to China but China are building more and more nuke power stations. Pity the russian peoples. The trust is all gone.
