The untold story of Zulkifli Abdul Khir
excerpts:
The first real indication that Zulkifli would one day be a jihadist was in 1982. Just like Osama bin Laden, it was the Sabra and Shatila massacre during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon that year, which first made him hate the US, Israel and their allies. He was said to be very affected by the incident and had kept pictures of the massacred Palestinian civilians which were cut out from the Times magazine.
This is a more recent report by the NST,
'Cheng' a Deep Purple and Bruce Lee fan
excerpts:
The red flag to Cheng’s inclination towards jihadism occurred in 1982. It was the Sabra and Shatila massacre during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon that year, which drew his hatred towards the United States, Israel and their allies.
Sabra and Shatila massacre
- it's the defining moment in the series of atrocities inflicted by the Israelis upon the Palestinians.
There had been so many other such massacres but that's the one which triggered the radicalism of many jihadists including the one as told in the story of Zulkifli.
The Israelis are at the moment still at it.
Pulverizing Gaza, with the death toll steadily climbing to almost 200 as I am writing this.
All the while, the Muslims are looking, quite impotent as they watch their fellow Muslims being murdered with impunity.
All they can do is to shout their condemnation, as well as call for volunteers and collect money for humanitarian effort.
Some other Muslims however turned into the likes of Zulkifli.
They want to hit back. Blood must be paid with blood.
That is the story of Zulkifli.
It's hard to ignore that the story has a tinge of sympathy for Zulkifli, who is supposed to be a ruthless terrorist.
The guy who told the story was after all his once close friend, who grew up together with him.
I have once met the guy with Aisya.
"Cheng masa tu kata tak kan orang Islam asyik nak kalah je. Tak kan kita je yang kena bunuh. Tak kan sedara se Islam kita kena bunuh kita nak kutip derma je," the guy said when relating the story of his friend.
He said he would not have known about Zulkifli's later part of the story as a jihadist if he had not told his friend of his interest to join in the fight at that time the First Chechen War in Russia.
"Saya pun masa tu teringin nak berjihad juga. Geram tengok askar Russia bunuh orang Islam kat Chechnya," he said.
That was, he said, what made Zulkifli told him about the details of his war experiences and the fact that there was a network which trained jihadists in Afghanistan which later on became known as Al Qaeda.
The guy however never joined the fight. Aisya told me that he now lives a normal mundane life somewhere in Kuala Lumpur.
Anyway, the government is currently making an effort to stop the growing number of young men who want to go down the path of Zulkifli's.
Reports indicated that scores of young Malaysians are now fighting in Syria and probably Iraq. Some had been killed.
More are probably now gearing up to go there.
I think the government is doing the right thing as a host of other problems will crop up if such a trend is not checked.
This country could not afford such radicalism and militancy.
However, the ongoing continuous murder of Palestinians by the Israelis are not going to help such an effort.
Young Muslims, who are passionate about defending their fellow Muslims would feel that it's their religious obligation to join the fight in the far away land.
It doesn't matter to them whether they are going to win or lose as long as they get to fight in the name of Allah.
If they die, they believe that they are going to paradise.
It's a win-win thing for them.
Zulkifli's friend told Aisya and me that was how he felt when he first thought of being a jihadist.
It was clear at that time that he admires his friend despite Zulkifli now living in hiding and hunted by almost every security intelligence agency in the world.
Such an attitude was wrong but how is it for us to stop it while the massacres of Muslims are continuing, not only in the Palastine, but also other parts of the world?
Humans, Muslims included have a natural instinct to hit back at those who hurt them. No?
The Israel vs Palestine is not because of religion, but because of RACE and LAND. The same with Chechnya but some Muslims, mostly the non-Arabs think that these are because of the hatred towards Islam.
ReplyDeleteThe ones that must be punished is the retarded soldiers or people who commit the atrocities, not the opponents' civilians. If we support the massacre of the enemies' civilians (i.e kids) who are not even involved in what they are doing then we are no different than them.
I know I am going to get 'shot' by Islamist commenters on this blog who want to see the massacre of the whole Jewish ethnicity.
Please note that I support Palestine. I side with Fatah because they are much better than Hamas. Hamas just wants to push their ideology and even kill Palestinians who do not want to adhere to their ideology. Oh yeah shoot me again because of this paragraph eh?
Young Malaysian Muslims are fighting in Syria and Iraq? Who are they siding with? I am pretty sure it's the barbaric ISIL/ISIS savages even though I hope not. Don't they know that these ISIL/ISIS devils have beheaded people who do not adhere to their version of Islam, issued a fatwa to rape Syrian women, shot civilians and etc?
I've been to Israel and the West Bank. The pressure and restrictions placed on the Palestinians there is immense. The population in the territories continues to expand every year and the only way the people there can manage is with handouts from the international community often through groups like UNRWA (mostly funded by western countries for over 60 years). Ultimately, the system will break - donors will become exhausted (so the burden will fall on the Israelis) and Palestinians will not be physically able to be shifted to ever decreasing plots of land. Then Israel will have to make a decision - to expel the Palestinians entirely (to where?) or to seek an accommodation (lets forget the idea of "peace"). So in the short to medium term, Israel knows it has the strongest hand, while the Palestinians know that the long term favours them. So, right now, there is little enthusiasm to reach agreement.
DeleteThen you come to people like Zulkifli. People without hope of building a good life for themselves. That are convinced that the main threat to their way of life is massacres and suffering inflicted on Muslims by non-believers. I don't deny that this does occur. But most of the faithful who die before their time are killed by other members of the same faith - those of their own community - the same for every faith around the World. But Zulkifli is even more misguided - he says he sees a wrong but does he address that cause - no, instead he goes to fight in Chechnya, Iraq and terrorizes other places and people unconnected with his motivating event. All the while most of those dying at their hands are those of the same faith. Forget paradise, I'm sure most theologians of most faiths would say this results in hell. If any of this doesn't sound right, please check the statistics/facts. God never asked us to be stupid, He asks for our faith once we are convinced by logic and fact.
Jangan termimpi umat islam sekarang (yang gagal diuji dengan kemewahan) boleh mengalahkan Israel. Yahudi hanya boleh dikalahkan dengan iman mukminan yang mantap.
ReplyDeleteIsraeli are using the brain to their advantage unlike the Muslim. The Muslim are mostly brainless and know how to killing each other. They don't use brain to think of the strategy to defeat their enemy. Muslim are doomed by Allah because they are not using brain.
ReplyDeleteAny research to back your theory? If none, stop this nonsense.Keep out relgions. The Israelis vs the Palestinians are fighting over "lands" that had been there since memorial. The Jews and the Palestinians had been living together peacefully all the while. It was the Balfour Agreement designed by the British after the WW2 that saw the Zionist Jews begun to occupy Palestine. The rest is history.

DeleteThe Sabra and Shatila massacre took place in the Sabra and Shatila Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon between September 16 and September 18, 1982, during the Lebanese civil war. Palestinian and Lebanese civilians were massacred in the camps by Christian Lebanese Phalangists while the camp was surrounded by Israeli forces. In that period of time, Israel was at war with Lebanon. The Israeli Forces occupied Beirut and dominated the refugee camps of Palestinians and controlled the entrance to the city. After the assassination of Bachir Gemayel, leader and president-elect of the Lebanese Phalangist, a Maronite group, also called Lebanese Forces militia group, entered the camp and murdered inhabitants during the night. The exact number of victims is disputed, from 700–800 to 3,500 (depending on the source).
Israeli forces enabled the entrance of the angry Kataeb Party group to the refugee camps, by providing them transportation from outside Beirut and firing illuminating flares over the camps. The Phalangists stood under the direct command of Elie Hobeika, who later became a long-serving Member of Parliament and, in the 1990s, a cabinet minister.

Israel's former PM Ariel Sharon has died in 2014 after 8 long years in coma at age 85.
Zulkifli must walk with one eye looking at the ground and the other looking at the sky looking out for American drones. His time will come, just a matter of time. Americans will blow this guy back to his little village in Indonesia where his ancestors came from.
ReplyDeleteHe could then also claim his 72 virgins and 300 slave boys. I can understand the virgin bit but what is he going to do with so many slave boys.Hmmmmmmmmmm, I hope its not what I think.
Jangan menghina!
DeleteTolong janganlah sarcastic.Hal agama jangan disentuh jika tak faham.Tolong main tempat lain.
DeleteKilling innocent people in the holy month of ramadhan when people restraint from eating and drinking is considered having brain?
ReplyDeleteThat's called brilliant strategy. Hitting your enemy when it is weak unlike the stupid HAMAS shooting useless rockets even though they know this is going to invite harsh response and bring misery to their own people.
DeleteNot so brilliant I think. When you have lying as a profession you are bound to trip. From fake memoirs to a silly diary thought in american school then the famous 6 million fake gas chambers byk lg penat nak tulis.
DeleteRead their journey from egypt to palestine and the way they treat prophet musa as. Little wonder why they behave like firaun now
Anon 5:39 IDF attacked first despite the medias claim it was in revenge for the deaths of the 3 boys
ReplyDeleteHumans do have a natural instinct to hit back at those who hurt their race or ethnic group, not religion.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why Arabs generally don't give a shit about non-Arab affairs, like how Arabs are pretty doing nothing much for non-Arab Muslims in Kashmir, Mindanao, etc. instead Arabs are busy expanding business with India and Philippines.
When the Philippines promised maids to Arab countries in exchange for not helping Moro in Mindanao, the Arabs agreed.
Muhammad said that the Quraysh (his tribe) are more virtous, trustworthy, and honored than all other peoples. (Even other Arab tribes)

Hadrat Aisha reports that Rasulullah (sallallhu alaihi wa sallam) once came to her and said, “Had I no fear of the Quraysh becoming boastful, I would have informed them of their status in the sight of Allah.” (4)
Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Look for trustworthiness amongst the Quraysh, because a trustworthy person from the Quraysh is superior to a trustworthy person from another tribe and a powerful person from the Quraysh (in Deen and in leadership) is twice as superior as a strong person from another tribe.”(5)
