Ghani's broken dream and final farewell for Ai

I am now at the Ayer Keroh RnR of the North-South Highway. Having an ice-blended cappuccino. On my way back to KL.

I don't know when I will come back to Johor again. It seems that I have no reason to be in Johor anymore.

My friend Ai had also cut short her break for the election and fly back to Taiwan last night.

She was so heart broken with what happened, especially the total rejection of the Chinese community in Gelang Patah towards their MB of 18 years Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

My other friend, Tinsel who took over Ai's blog BIGCAT had estimated that Ghani got less than 5 per cent of the Chinese votes in Gelang Patah. You can read it here Abandoned

My estimation, however, indicated that Ghani received even less than that from the Chinese community. ACTUALLY, IT IS LESS THAN 3 PER CENT.

Can you all just imagine that.

Ghani, who had served as MB so well and helped the Chinese community with all that he could for so many years being snubbed like that. All his works and friendship with those Chinese NGOs apparently doesn't count for anything to the Chinese of Gelang Patah.

I was told by my friends who are close with Ghani that he was till the final hours of polling, still believed that his Chinese friends in Gelang Patah, especially among the Chinese NGOs will never betray him.

But in the end, betrayed him, they did.

Ghani had actually expected he could get up to 30 per cent of the Chinese votes in Gelang Patah. He had hoped to secure a victory in the Chinese-majority constituency and prove to the rest of the country that the Chinese would accept a Malay with a good track-record like him as their leader. He had wanted so much to prove that his Chinese friends in Gelang Patah were real friends who will support him despite him being a Malay.

These Chinese of Gelang Patah whom Ghani had trusted so much are respected Chinese community leaders, leaders of temple associations, leaders of local Chinese social groups etc. Ghani had went out of his way to help them all in one way or another when he was a Menteri Besar.

Ghani had put up a dignified campaigning strategy and refused to be drawn into conflict with his rival. He didn't hold a single rally throughout the campaigning period in order to prevent the heated campaigning from reaching the boiling point. All he did was meet all his so-called "old friends" and appeal to them to give him their votes so that he may prevent the polarization of Malaysian society.

Of course, as it turned out, they are not his real friends.

They demanded what they want, take what were offered by Ghani and then they spit in his face.

Ai, before leaving last night, told me she wants to end her studies in Taiwan and come back to Malaysia. She said she has no motivation left to study the culture of a race which clearly despises someone like her.

Well, maybe Ai was being too emotional. But I can understand her sentiments. Maybe she will later cool down and reconsider.

By the way, Ai is not going to write her weekly posting in this blog anymore. She said she is done with blogging. She admitted that she was wrong for advocating a more Chinese-friendly BN government when she runs the BIGCAT blog. She said she now just want to continue with her life and does not want to care anymore about politics.

I didn't ask her whether she is still planning to marry her Chinaman.

Well, farewell dear Ai. Take care and may you find happiness.

Time when we needed help, those who count as friend does at times stab our back. But if we allow our pain to color and paint our eyes, then we are no better than them. Times like this, I believe the Malay way of doing things is still lies in what he believe his Maruah. It is a sign of good men that he holds his maruah, and give out his helping hand even if he is spit and cursed. Because in the end, everything will die and forgotten but not his deed. The Chinese will maybe, I hope maybe will be able to see the good deeds of the men they had backstab. Even if its late, it is still worth it.

you dont even understand what is called a democracy elections where voters can elect whoever we want to represent us come election year. Whoever we wanna vote is up to us and that's why it's call free elections. Now we have people like you and those people in UMNO whining about ungrateful and rotten chinese for not voting them.In a democracy the people have a choice of wanting who they want to vote for and nobody can criticize their choices. And the winning party have to look after the people that vote against them too because they are also citizens of that country and these people pay taxes too. They have the right to choose who they want to be run the country. Now we have people like you and others in BN telling the government not to look after the chinese because they are ingrates.
Darn..tell that to the british that gave us the parlimantary democracy system and they will probably roll in their graves...lol
They will have a hard time telling who voted for Labour and who for the Conservatives and not to service who..and the British people keep on changing between the two..lol

If you people wanna have a system like this you have to face these kind of situations where the people can change their taste of government as they wishes and be mature about it.If not then just go back to absolute monarchy where there will be no elections.

  20. Annie,

Elections are about selecting future leaders not for expressing gratitude. We have awards and Datukship for that.

It's true the so-called herd mentality of Chinese has pushed them into seeking refuge within their communities. That's what they do best, in hard times they stick together. I wasn't surprised Chinese votes have abandoned BN in droves because seriously do you really think this is news issue?

The seed was sown in 2004 when absolute arrogance kicked in when BN won in a landslide. Ultra Malays in UMNO started putting forth their supremacist agendas forward making Chinese and Indians appear small and insignificant.

Meanwhile we Malays, in good and bad times we still find the occupy ourselves to pick fights with our own brothers and races instead of empowering our people in greater height.

The situation will correct itself, Chinese will start warming up to BN gradually but only if these right wing racist dinosaurs in UMNO are suppressed.

This is not what Islam teaches us. Part of parcel of a being a Islamic nation is peace for it allows us to serve Allah. What good come from by us stirring racial tension?

Dato' Ghani lost not because of Chinese do not appreciate him but look at the large picture, what do Dato' Ghani stands for, that keris symbol of a soon-to-be Malay ultra supremacist party.

We are deluded to think this is Chinese being ungrateful lot. We could have never been so wrong.

    1. UMNO has clipped many of its old cumbersome dinosaurs, and will continue to do better if only you'd have faith.

If you want to see the big picture as you asked us to do with Ghani Othman, when what do DAP stand for? A party that fights for Chinese cause.

If people have truly wanted a corrupt-free leader who will serve the people, they would've chosen Ghani based on his track record.

Kit Siang may say he fights for anti-corruption, but what development has he really brought for any constituency he stands in?

You have to really think about that. Deeply.

Option: 'buy' 1 @ 2 UMNO MP to jump ship over (katak), and become PKR friendly?

If not, PAS gets to be MB. Remember Perak? PAS give cousins Ngeh & Nga, timberland as concession for MB seat.

If PAS becomes MB, will Hudud be implemented. Will they close down that beer brewing plant in Shah Alam?
