It was on merit.

Before that he was the Home Minister, But not taking action on so many things because wanting to be in line with what the cousin PM wants - be soft and tender on the anti-nationals, removed the ISA, EO, RRA and the like.

But there was hue and cry among the public for the non or delayed action. So he was transferred to Defence and Ahmad Zahid became Home Minister, i/c of the Police etc. And he took drastic action against the criminals and anti-nationals. The public roared with approval.

So, speaking up does produce results. So, let's speak up, guys. So, we can discuss how UMNO MBs are selected without fear of recriminations.

Here are some of the criteria that I think have been used in the past:

1. The most popular in the state as perceived by the party President, based on divisional election results, giving regard to the varying sizes of the divisions, maybe some kind of ratio used if necessary to justify any one being thought of

2. The one likely to bring in the most votes in the state for the party President in the event of the post being contested

3. Loyalty beyond any doubt. The one who will rally around everybody if a vote of no confidence is considered against the party President, like happened to Pak Lah

4. Full understanding, sympathy and support of the Federal Government's agenda. The one who will get the party President/PM's policies carried out fully in the state - bringing in more mainland Chinese or Singaporeans to buy properties and/or settle down in the state, in the name of making Malaysia a developed nation, talked about in Singapore and being seen by visitors to Singapore

5. Acceptability to the palace. Ability to solve problems without bothering KL

6. We can understand then, because Penang's source of water are from rivers and streams flowing dowstream from Kedah. He was MP then, too. But after losing GE13's Pendang seat, people are wondering why Guan Eng is still paying him as Directors fee in PBAPP when Kedah is now under BN. He does not serve any purpose what-so-ever for the people of Penang. If he is Penang's Mufti, Ustaz/Ulamak or holding any other Islamic religious obligation, bestowed upon him as PAS Vice President, we can understand.

Therefore, what Mat Sabu is doing in PBAPP, remains a mystery to the tax-paying Rakyat, especially in Penang.
It just don't bode well with that C.A.T tagline, DAP is promoting. Johor BN took the full brunt of the Chinese tsunami with over 90 per cent of the Chinese voters going for Pakatan (read DAP). Bear in mind that Chinese made up almost 40 per cent of Johoreans. If the Malays support for Umno in Johor was lesser by 10 per cent, the State would had fall. Four of the five parliament seats lost were Chinese majority areas : Gelang Patah, Kluang, Kulai, Bakri, The mixed Batu Pahat would not had been lost if the BN leadership had listened to Johor Umno liaison committee not to field that boorish Puad Zarkashi. Of the 18 state seats lost, 14 are Chinese majority. The other mixed and Malay state seats were lost due to localized factionalism issues. I believe Umno didn't do that badly in Johor in GE13.Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17665536033017767690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-293986270107200488.post-57119956985584281012014-09-08T06:58:43.241+08:002014-09-08T06:58:43.241+08:00Selangor MB crisis: PAS makes another turn
