PKR rattled that Anwar is facing a cute Chinese lady

Surprisingly, PKR appeared rattled that their boss DS Anwar Ibrahim is to face DP Chew Mei Fun in the Kajang by-election.

The prospect of Anwar having to face a Chinese lady in a constituency with a sizable Chinese community apparently makes them a bit edgy.

Maybe they fear such a face off may remind the Chinese of certain things they rather want them to forget,

So, they got their Wanita chief to come up with a statement like this :

Why did Liow Tiong Lai ‘run away’ from contesting in Kajang?

I think it's a rather stupid diversionary tactic.

Unlike Anwar, Liow is not hungry to be this and that. So, why does he need to be the MCA's candidate in Kajang?

Chew is after all a party vice-president. That's not big enough ka?

Come on la, PKR people should stop thinking that people are stupid all the time.

The only reason why Zuraida asked that silly question is just that they in PKR had discussed Chew's candidacy and they knew that the prospect of Anwar further exploiting Kajang had been diminished even if he wins because he is now facing a woman BN candidate.

They are sore that, instead of Anwar getting a "big man to big man" fight, he ends up having to fight a woman, and a Chinese one at that, which reminds people of certain thing about their main man of the opposition.

Anyway, whatever it is, when I look at Zuraida, I think I can understand why Anwar seems to be rather partial for pretty Chinese ladies in certain circumstances.

Not that it's an excuse for his behavior, though.

Well, MCA is having their extraordinary general meeting today. I am wishing them all the best. Hopefully they can get ALL their MEMBERS in Kajang to vote for their own candidate.

The Chinese must really avoid themselves from getting screwed by Anwar.

  3. Annie,

Come on, that's a ridiculous assumption that Anwar is worried about facing ANYBODY from MCA, even a female with Chew's credentials.

If anything, Anwar is more worried about that 6000+ majority from PRU13 - anything less and he'll need to come up with some excuse (maybe Bangla Deshi or Myanmarese voters disguised as satay sellers parachuted in from Rembau).

You suggested that there were 4,000 MCA members in Kajang and you hope that all of them vote for Chew.

Well, even if ALL of them did vote for Chew, it would be pointless. Your side cannot win on 4,000 MCA votes alone.

Reading between the lines of your article, it sounds like the Chinese, especially those from MCA, will be blamed again for siding with Pakatan, even if every single one of those poor MCA sods had voted for Chew. :)

On another matter, I note that the non-political aspect of Malaysian politics is still being exploited :) By this, I mean, the so-called Anwar videos and how good-looking or how ugly people may be :)

Never mind, it's how politics has been played in Malaysia for a while now. Malaysians seem to like this kind of stuff. I guess it is a form of entertainment, isn't it? :)

Only wish for Chew would be able to identify the registered, fence sitters, voters offering her hands shake for the sake of political change.

Anwar is doomed. He has nothing to offer because he self-engineered the by-election. During her walkabout hands shake, she just says, "I am here not to clean up Anwar's dirty linens but to make a different for Kajang constituency."

Kajang has about 39,000 registered voters and turnout in PRU13 was about 33,000.

17,000 fence sitters just seems a high estimate.

Notwithstanding your very generous number for fence sitters, there is no way I can see ALL the fence sitters voting for Chew - not even if each and every one of those fence sitters was bribed.

Fence sitters are notoriously fickle - believe me, I am one :)

I know of a case where a fence sitting voter decided to vote for a particular party because she liked the shoes one of the party helpers was wearing!!!! :) No lie :)

Apart from the tussle for the MB post by his lieutenants and the thought of losing the by-election, his anak-beranak party's election which is long due, is more frightening than anything else. Remember what chaos and manipulation that occurred during the last Party Election? There is no way he can postpone it any longer too. What would people say if he keeps delaying? Will the ROS close one eye? I think they will, unless party members don't file a report, like DAP's CEC.

He deluded the Malays into believing he was doing it for the sake of the religion of Islam, but instead he succeeded in importing Saudi-Wahhabism into Malaysia while he served in the government, and this synchronized all too well with the radical politics of PAS' Hadi Awang to spark off the cultic Memali incident in Baling, Kedah (1985) and the subversive Al-Mauna militancy at Sauk Perak (2000)

    My rationale:-
    1. Pakatan Rakyat support will be split this time, the hardcore one will support Anwar whatever controversies he brought.Khalid and PAS supporters may not. Even though Khalid has limited grass-root support within PKR, he has a lot of support from the voters. The voters that still want Selangor to be managed by Khalid shall voted Anwar out.
    2. Majority malay voters will go to Chew because of the moral issue of Anwar and Allah issue
    3. Majority of 'fence sitters' voters will go to Chew because they feel these election is unnecessary and will not change the status quo of Selangor government. Pakatan Rakyat still rule with 2/3 majority.
4.Chew factor - A pretty and high morale lady against a triple tongue hypocrite. MCA shall capitalise this.

The problem I believe on ways BN machinery tackle on issues raised by Anwar. Anwar is good in words and people without realising it will be hypnotised by him. BN shall be quick in handling this and answer Anwar point by point.

Chew might be a person with principles but she is with a party that is seen to have none.

You are right about one thing - Chew will need the Malay vote.

She has, at best, only got an estimated 4,000 MCA votes (per Annie's estimate above) and it is simply not enough.

I suspect she has already lost a huge chunk of the estimated 4,000+ Indian votes due to the Waythamoorty resignation. I think she would be very very lucky to get 2,000 there.

That leaves us with the estimated 25,000 Malay voters. I think to be safe, Chew would need at least 15,000 Malay votes - not impossible but I don't think it is that easy either.

Even if she can get 10,000 Malay votes she could still possibly squeak home because she will have (4,000 MCA + 2,000 Indian + 10,000 Malay) which is roughly half of the 80% voter turnout for PRU13.

BUT my prediction is that Chew will lose because she cannot get the Indian vote and the Malay vote.

The Chinese will still be blamed anyway for her loss because they have "not supported" MCA :)

Anyway, it was fun to crunch the numbers coffee shop style :) Please don't hold me to any of my figures as I was just half-remembering percentages :)

Umno knows the Malays psych while MCA knows the Chinese. Each faction knows their lots well and knows what works best. And the MIC works for the rest of the population which is the Indians. I think MIC might find it challenging to try and convince Indians to vote for BN in Kajang.

Waythamoorty's resignation has gummed up the works there.

MCA will be stuck with their 4,000-member base. I seriously doubt if they will get 4,001 Chinese votes out of an expected turnout of 13,000 Chinese votes (80% turnout of approx 16,000 total Chinese votes )

My guess is that it will be up to UMNO to get MCA over the line and it will be an uphill battle for UMNO to get 15,000 Malay votes out of an expected turnout of say, 20,000 Malay voters..

Maybe that is why some UMNO people were unhappy about MCA contesting in Kajang - they knew they had to do all the work and if MCA won, it will be MCA that gets the credit :)

Chew looks like she will lose because I don't believe that UMNO can muster the Malay vote.

Never mind, it will be the Chinese that will be blame for "deserting" BN, etc etc again.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous @ 24 February 2014 13:42,

It is not possible to "draw a wedge" in the BN coalition.

MCA and MIC know that they are the yes-man to their UMNO tuans.

MCA and MIC know that UMNO only need Musa Aman in Sabah and Taib Mahmud in Sarawak.

No, there are no wedges to draw in BN - UMNO rules all :)

Pakatan, on the other hand, has 3 parties with equal power. Any one of the three parties can create severe problems for the Pakatan coalition.

This is why PAS is constantly being attacked because it is seen as the weakest of the three - they are religious, they are conservative, their senior leaders say and do silly things sometimes.

The hope here is to create problems between the Pakatan partners - break one party and the whole Pakatan coalition suffers.

In this sense, you are right - BN is unlike Pakatan.

MCA and MIC could be completely and utterly destroyed politically with almost zero effect to BN.

I could be wrong but I believe this is why UMNO supporters treat the Chinese and Indians with complete disdain - like second class citizens if you will. MCA and MIC are useless in BN, ergo Chinese and Indians are useless.

Whereas, in Pakatan, each party is forced to treat the others with respect because they know they need each other. There is no choice.

With some outside help, of course.
So in 2006 and 2007, analysts in Langley and Vauxhall Cross tried to puzzle out why millions of pounds were flooding out of the network and into the holding accounts of small, heretofore largely unknown civil society groups.

Secret services were already familiar with Anwar’s close association with George Soros and the manner in which they had funded ex nihilo a host of nominally independent groups who promptly sprang to life, decrying Malaysia’s Government and faithfully parroting the Opposition’s every utterance.
The stories of both BERSIH and HINDRAF – the two rallies less than a month apart that shook Malaysia – begins as with so much else in this story with pre-existing structures corrupted by Anwar’s money machine. For Hindraf, the initial organisers were just a handful of men and women deeply exercised over the destruction of Hindu temples. With Bersih, a group of reformers and relatively unimportant Keadilan personages who began discussing electoral reform by e-mail . . . . . . .

In my opinion the election in Kajang will be the testing ground for UMNO to judge the support of the Chinese and Indians towards BN.Whoever wins it does matter for UMNO as if the support of these two races still with PR,come GE 14,we will see UMNO will definately fight back the areas with Malay majority given to MCA and MIC.Only areas which are traditionally the majority by Chinese or totally urban seats will be given to MCA and MIC.Afterall without the support of the Chinese UMNO can still win 89 seats and with support from other components in Sabah and Swk , a simple majority will be achieve. So what will happen that there will be no Chinese again in the Cabinet so look after their affairs and for what I had seen lately after GE 13 not much had been done or mentioned either by PM or the Govt regarding the well being of Chinese. So it is pertinent that the Chinese must have Representatives in the Cabinet.

  18. Anon 23:50,

Agreed. For GE 14, UMNO has only to please the Malays and the East Malaysians to get votes. Forget about the votes from kaum pendatang. Mereka ni memang tak berguna ibarat sampah!

  21. I think PAS will not support PKR in the Kajang by-election.

Today PAS President was fine RM2.0 Million for accusing Shamsul Mat Akin, a PKR candidate as 'Pengedar Pill Kuda' during GE13, in Kampung Tebakang, Alor Limbat, Marang. In the 3 corner contest, BN wons with 6966 votes, PAS with 4408 votes and PKR with 52 votes!!!
Looks like PAS members will be more busy with their 'tin Milo' than helping the Rear Admiral in Kajang.

How can a President of what seems to be an "Islamic" party accused its own coalition member's top leaders as a drug pusher?

    Moral of the story.
Among their top leaders also fighting, just imagine what will happen once they become the gomen. All year-round we will be very busy with by-election?

And the most surprising thing about Kajang by-election, it is also due to infighting, this time among PKR's top leaders, for the MB post in Selangor.

Therefore, if you think these politicians are fighting for the Rakyat, you being liwatted. The are only using you, the Rakyat for their personal greed. Even in their Party's name, they already dupe you, the Rakyat.

    'Party Keadilan Rakyat' my foot.
