I never thought it would be this way
The first glimmer of hope for BN after GE13 actually comes today from MCA.
The MCA delegates apparently proved themselves capable of moving forward.
The new top leadership line-up of the party voted in today,
President :
Liow Tiong Lai
Deputy president :
Wee Ka Siong
Vice-presidents:
Lee Chee Leong
Chew Mei Fun
Chua Tee Yong
Hou Kok Chung
Okay, I admit, I am guilty of writing them off.
Looking at the line-up, I now believe that these new MCA leaders could get cracking and win back some of the support of the Chinese community.
The line-up is a clear departure from the previous one which was plagued with problematic characters, myriad of problems as well as scandals.
Liow may be a bit slow, but he is a relatively decent fella. Wee a bit arrogant but hopefully he could moderate it a bit so that the party can have good working relationship with the other BN component parties, especially Umno.
The others are relatively young and respectable.
Not bad at all.
I think the MCA delegates did better at transforming their party leadership compared to Umno which had insisted on keeping the status quo during their party elections two months ago.
At least they didn't keep their tainted leaders, real or perceived. There was also no serious infighting leading to this transition of leadership. Just a bit of noise, that's all.
I am looking forward to see what these new MCA leaders could offer.
Congratulations to them.
Congratulations too to former MCA president DS Dr Chua Soi Lek who graciously step aside to give way to these new leaders to revive the party.
Hopefully, under the new leadership, the party's over one million members will vote for BN and persuade others of the Chinese community to do the same in the next general election and stop the racial polarization process of this country.
Hopefully it will happened. I really hate to hate the Chinese. My mother will be perpetually angry with me if I'm like that.
New fart. Old fart. Still fart.

ReplyDeleteMahu Cium Annie
Annie,
ReplyDeleteI really cannot see MCA winning back the Chinese vote in time for GE14.
What can MCA offer the Chinese between now and GE14?
An end to corruption? Better education? No more abuse of power by UMNO?
Ah!! But MCA can offer a better deal for the Chinese, I hear you say.
Well, how can MCA do that without raising the hackles of radicals in UMNO?
Do you think the rank and file in UMNO will accept the Chinese getting a better deal? Even you, as a moderate UMNO supporter, believe that the Chinese have already been given TOO MUCH!! What do you think a radical UMNO supporter would think? :)
No, my dear Annie, the Chinese know that where MCA was an equal partner in BN once upon a time, today, MCA is merely UMNO's lapdog.
Gladiator
MCA was an equal partner with UMNO in BN? When was that?
Deletethe same goes to Pas in Pakatan
DeleteAnon 01:56,
DeleteWell, a long long long time ago, in a far far away land, MCA had a voice and was able to speak to UMNO on equal terms.
Although UMNO was always the "team leader", MCA and MIC were valued friends and had valuable input.
Such halycon days are now long forgotten to most Malaysians except those who have some interest in Malaysian political history.
Have a read of Malaysian history from say, 1940s' onwards. Quite interesting to see the changes we have undergone since then.
Knowledge is power and it has allowed me to be tolerant and understanding of the morons who post stupid racist comments in this blog.
Gladiator
Anon 08:04,
DeleteNo, you are incorrect if you think that PAS has a junior role in Pakatan - at the moment.
If you wish to continue believing UMNO propaganda, instead of simple logic, feel free.
The Pakatan strategy requires PKR, DAP and PAS to have equal say - for obvious reasons.
Just UMNO is the "team leader" in BN, I think it is safe to say that PKR has the same role in Pakatan.

Those were the days when the chinese were small and need others to survive in this wild and underdeveloped land. Now that this land had prospered, due to persevere and hard work of everybody, the chinese had grown big-headed and think they can have this country all for themselves.
DeleteWhat we see experience today is far cry from those good early days. Tunku was wrong in giving the immigrants legal status, but I don't fault his honesty.
How can you be so unbelievable stupid anon 11:05 ? The Chinese are the minority in the country and with their combined Parliament seat is not more than 18%, so please tell us how the Chinese 'can have' this country all for themselves ?
DeleteSi bodoh anon 11:05, lain kali kalau nak bohong pon kenalah pandai sikit-sikit, kalau tidak orang ramai akan ketawakan mu.
Anon 11:05,
Delete"Those were the days when the chinese were small and need others to survive in this wild and underdeveloped land."
The Chinese have never needed anybody to survive.
Look at the examples of the Chinese who have worked the goldfields of America and Australia. Those were hostile conditions in more ways than one.
"Now that this land had prospered, due to persevere and hard work of everybody"
The prosperity of Malaysia was due to petro-dollars - not hard work.
"the chinese had grown big-headed and think they can have this country all for themselves."
I find it difficult to comment on the seige-mentality of Malaysians.
The Malays fear the Chinese, the Chinese fear the Malays, the Indians fear everybody.
Why do Malaysians choose to behave this way?
"What we see experience today is far cry from those good early days."
It is quite obvious to me that there is a lot of hatred amongst the races. How did it get to this?
I am assuming many of the racist comments in this article come from Malays with comments from the Chinese coming in a close second.
If they are, in fact Malays, I am just surprised that they believe it is OK to be racist. I thought Malays are Muslims and Islam forbids such thoughts.
But I am not a Muslim, so what do I know.
As far as racist comments from the Chinese are concerned, I find them as stupid as those from the ones by the Malays.
There a saying that goes, "Your shit smells just as bad as mine".
I can tell that there are some pretty dumb stupid Malaysians who don't understand what that saying means.
"Tunku was wrong in giving the immigrants legal status, but I don't fault his honesty."
What did you expect the Tengku to do?

Lin Yu Tang studied for his bachelor's degree at Saint John's University in Shanghai, then continued his study for a doctoral degree at Harvard University. He later wrote that it was in the Widener Library he first found himself and first came alive. He left Harvard early however, moving to work with the Chinese Labor Corps in France and eventually to Germany, where he completed his requirements for a doctoral degree in Chinese philology at the University of Leipzig. From 1923 to 1926 he taught English literature at Peking University. His many works represent an attempt to bridge the cultural gap between the East and the West. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1940 and 1950.
DeleteIn the mid-1950s, he served briefly but unhappily as president (or chancellor) of the Nanyang University which was newly created in Singapore specifically for Chinese studies as parallel to the English-oriented University of Singapore. He did not, however, choose to continue in that role when the faculty resisted his plans for structural reform: Nanyang (South Seas) University became a focus of the struggle for control of Singapore between the Communist-directed left and the liberal, social democratic right. Dr. Lin Yu Tang felt he was too old for the conflict. Some of the professor's quotes:
"Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. Where there are too many soldiers, there is no peace. Where there are too many lawyers, there is no justice."
"Today we are afraid of simple words like goodness, mercy and
kindness. We don't believe in the good old words because we don't believe in good old values anymore. And that's why the world is sick."

DeleteDon't compare Malaysia with Singapore. The chinese is the majority there, they very much can do as they like there. With their wealth and bribery skills it is not impossible for them to have political power here but once the ignorant natives realised that they had been had, it will only lead to mass disenchantment and will surely result in chaos. The chinese might have both political and economic power but they will surely miss peace. We have seen it in Uganda, South Africa, Fiji, and others.

ReplyDeleteThose are very kind words from Annie. I wish I could share your optimism, but if I'm honest to myself, I can't. Although I want to see MCA regain some support, but I have my doubts that the current lineup in MCA can achieve much. Their current personalities in leadership roles are not exactly leadership quality and does not command the respect of the Chinese community. Old wine in new bottle. Well, at least they will stop sabotaging each other.
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason why BN still keeps MCA around, and it's not altruism. And there's a reason why the other major component parties in BN are sinking, MCA, Gerakan, MIC...
The Malays can continue their tirade towards the Chinese, or others, makes no difference. The attacks against the Chinese before, & especially after GE13, has sealed the fate of MCA. The Malays don't have to be defensive, or even try justify their actions. Neither do the Chinese. It is their right to voice their opinions. And it's actually good that the Chinese & the Malays know how they truly feel about each other. At least they can now discard with the pretensions.
It has always been about mutual benefits. When the 'taps/wallets' run dry, the truth emerges.
Cheers!
please moderate your commentator. too strong words.this just my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteAnnie's blog is platform used by all the UMNO goons to bash the Chinese and other non Malay community in the country. Sadly, the little lady of the valley has got nothing better to do in her life than to curse and to blame for all the failures of Malays solely in the chinese community.

ReplyDeleteThey tried with Bintang Tiga in 1945, they mange to rule for 14 days. They tried again in 1969 through DAP, they only manage to create chaos. Then DAP tried again, in 2013, in cohort with liberal malays and religious extremist and they get very close. Surely they will try again soon. I guess it's in their blood. ReplyDeleteAsk yourselves why you’ve been left behind in wealth race, Ku Li tells Malays
ReplyDeleteInstead of wailing, lamenting and demanding more Bumiputera participation in the economy, Malays should take a good look at themselves and ask why they have been left behind, said veteran politician Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
Tengku Razaleigh, or known as Ku Li, noted that the number of Malays holding key positions in the corporate sector had decreased compared with previous years.
While Felda Global Ventures (FGV) has spread its wings to other countries and boosted trade, it did not involve many Malays.
"The halal product industry is sadly controlled and dominated by non-Malays. The most disappointing thing is that several Malays, who founded local businesses, are no longer the owners but workers of the companies," Ku Li said when opening the 4th Perkasa general assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.
"Let me make it clear, these developments are not related to racial issues or the special rights of Malays being ignored.
“The core of the issue is that Malays have lost their edge in an increasingly competitive business arena."
Malays can no longer blame others for monopolising economic wealth in Malaysia because they have been given numerous opportunities and aid.
It is time for them to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge to succeed in the business arena.
Ku Li said the Malays should be taught skills and knowledge so that they would learn how to be independent instead of constantly relying on the Government.
He said if Malays continued to be dependent on Putrajaya, they would be swallowed by globalisation.
Ku Li also said Perkasa should take a good look at itself and ask why it has been mocked and ignored by the Malay community whose rights the party professes to struggle for.
I love you too Annie
